Cheapest way to build retract time

Yeah, I just wrote "auto fuel" in my post and didn't notice the question 'with ethanol'. Sorry, all of those planes and engines in the list do support "auto fuel" and of course, none of them support "with ethanol". I would think that everyone in the av community knows that none of the legacy...

Cheapest way to build retract time

I provided a link to a plane that is under $60k, can burn auto fuel, and run at 9GPH. The Cadet is the cheapest, and the OP turned it down. So, if you are complaining, find something that compares. The short body Mooney competes, but as I stated, I prefer the Bo. There's an M20B for $70k on BS...

Cheapest way to build retract time

Walter and his wife made a plane for the ages. Cessna was selling the round engine, tail wheel, 195. Piper, Waco, Luscombe, Mooney, etc had nothing. It was 20 years ahead of everything in 1947. Features like all electric gear and electric prop control. Double tapered wing, flush riveting, Mag...

Last mow of the season. Been another good year

I thought I was done mowing the runway in late Sept. We got a good soaking and it sprouted again. So I got the ZTR out, check the oil and put in some no-eth gas. Spent a few good hours mowing and doing some FOD checking. Found a bone, probably left from a dog being out there, and also found a...

Cheapest way to build retract time

The Culver is fabric covered, usually with poly paint. It can stay on the ramp unless it rains a lot. In WA, might be too wet. For any wood plane, flying them regularly at altitude is the cure to any moisture issues. Aside from that if the Cadet won't work the next best retract is an early...

    Who can do Rigging?

Older aircraft, that do not use dynafocal mounts for the engine(and maybe some that do use them) should check the thrust line of the engine before making rig changes. The weight of the engine, over many decades may alter the thrust line in multiple axis', making for interesting changes in how...

    Auto conversion ideas

The Corvair in aircraft often use a 'fifth bearing' on the front to support prop and gyroscopic loads. The housing is billet Al, and the bearing is steel of course. The weight increase is worth the extra crank support. See flycorvair <dot> net for further info and supplies.

Pilot threatened with arrest for helping NC victims of Hurricane Helene...excuse me?

Network. Paddy Cheyefsky. Howard Beale, after being fired from UBS for being too old; "I'm as mad as hell - and I'm not going to take it anymore!!"

Elon does not read this forum, apparently

The 'investigations', leading to new mandated requirements, leading to disagreements over procedures, leading to fines seems to be related more to the person's change in their support of a leadership faction than anything related to 'safety'. I believe the 'safety' excuse is simply a ruse to...

    Auto conversion ideas

Preface: I have never built or designed any auto conversion engine in an aircraft. I've flown behind several, including a Corvair powered Sonex, and a Piet with a Ford flathead(model T?), and a few others. The Porsche PFM engine has not been mentioned. The first blush, Porsche was to design a...

Pilot threatened with arrest for helping NC victims of Hurricane Helene...excuse me?

There is a story on the NY Post website concerning NASCAR driver flying his heli to help storm ravaged victims. I cannot post a link. Also a special page setup on facebook for airdrop assist from TX. It is subtitled "opairdrop". They have made > 180 safe assistance flights as of this post.

First Annual North Texas Winter Extravaganza - Cedar Mills (3T0)

3T0 info: I've landed there > 20 times in the past 10 years. It is not one way in, one way out. However over the lake is preferred but base the operation on wind and other use. The marina is very friendly to aviation. They don't have courtesy cars as a rule, but usually one can borrow a car for...

Cheapest way to build retract time

The cheapest retract overall cost would be a Culver Cadet. Also designed by Al Mooney, before the Mooney Mite. There is one for sale on BS right now for $30k in excellent condition. It burns 3-4GPH and flies about 130MPH. Learn to hand prop before buying. Keith will provide TW instruction upon sale.
