    DOGE and the FAA

About 30 years ago, I spent 6mo as a GS-13 on a 'special project' that was going to revolutionize computer use in combat. There were about 9 of us all mostly standing around with our thumb in our ass for days/weeks on end while the project ramped up, alpha then beta test, then theoretical roll...

I'm sure you believe this. Meh - it's a semi free country.

    It's Around Here Somewhere ...

I found a $11,000 cashiers check in a 1987 Porsche I bought. Sadly, it was drawn on a bank that went out of business 16 years ago, and it was all mildewed. I didn't try to negotiate it at my branch.

    DOGE and the FAA

From my reading of the tea leaves, Musk's anger and frustration with the FAA dealt with delays, and picayune attitude of the 'crats he has to deal with to get a launch 'permit'. Prior to his move to buy X(and move to the right) all his requests for permits went through slick as corn through a...

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

Not generally. The internal resistance of the battery when discharged plays a part in this, as does the regulator on the alternator. In aircraft, the full load of all electric loads on an alternator cannot exceed 80% of the rated amperage of the alternator installed. So, there are situations...

    Log book theft?

OK, well maybe I misunderstood the timing along the way. The caregiver has committed a conversion of property. Her reasoning could be deemed as innocent mistake, but nonetheless she has committed a violation of law by taking something she KNEW was not her property, and gave it to another. Well...

    It's Around Here Somewhere ...

Years ago I left a small set of feeler gauges inside the valve cover of a Ford 292. Didn't seem to harm the engine at all. When I found the feeler gauges they were still nice and shiny with a lot of oil. I was doing acro once with my GF in the back seat and we did inverted flight for maybe 20...

Southwest Airliner Hit by Gunfire in Dallas 11/15/24

For those bitching about the issues in the entire state of Texas, here's a crime grid map with DAL terminal in the red circle. I guess y'all think the entire state is like Preston, Bluff View area which happens to have the highest crime rate in the STATE. Yes, even higher than S Houston if the...

    Log book theft?

Your cause of action has nothing to do with the jerk that had the logs. It is against the caregiver who mis-appropriated something that didn't belong to him/her and is culpable for their whereabouts. If you have proof that the caregiver gave them away, go after the caregiver. In court if needed...

    Where should a beginner start???

I don't want to throw water on the fire, but the truth is - general(private) aviation is a very expensive hobby. However, if you want to go professional later, the time spent training now will go towards the professional requirements down the road. I'm not trying to dissuade you from pursuing...

    Tug advice.

I made my own as well. Used the rear end of a riding mower. It has fwd and rev modes. Use a washing machine motor and a simple cable clutch with a idle pully on it. Cut off the front end where the seat is and just put a swivel wheel there and a handle. Total cost was about $300, took an...

NA - Need house smoke detectors

I have a lot of rentals. Only buy the Kiddie contractor pack. They are 10 year. If two of four go bad, I take them all back and get a new set. They are more sensitive than some other brands I used before. Also noted before, use a vac and suck at the vent. BTW, the detectors should be mounted...

Gear up landing, when does the FAA get involved?

We had a Piper gear up at my field a few years ago. I was out there with the straps, and the tractor and had it off the runway in less than 40 min. As far as I know no one was called. There were no injuries, and the prop strike was obvious. I hoisted the plane to a hangar, we put about six car...

    DOGE and the FAA

Back to FAA and DOGE. One point of maybe success is the airport review process. I have gone through three of them, and all were done by private contractors, worked for the FAA in the inspection biz. In all three cases, the inspector was on time, and spent the right amount of time at the field...

    DOGE and the FAA

I didn't say they were destroyed BY those factors, but they were still destroyed. There are other examples not quite as bad, but still a nasty outcome coinciding with the fiat of the currency.

    It's official... BasicMed expanded

Two comments; A. We owe it all to Bruce. He finally made them listen. B. I have an opinion that when the FAA went after pilots for neck size, and sleep apnea, they lost whatever respect they had engendered.

    DOGE and the FAA

I guess technically you are right. It could go on like this as proven by the Reichsmark, and the Confederate 'greenbacks' which are worth less tha the paper they are printed on. OBTW, both of those examples ended in the destruction of the nation that fiated them.
