    B-1B, Ellsworth, all eject

I wonder how much of the B-1 infrastructure Grand Forks AFB still has, in working condition or otherwise. I remember seeing the row of tails over the fence when we would drive to Grand Forks in the 80s and 90s. My grandfather was an Army engineer whose career took him to Europe (I think he got...

    Scooters safe for GA?

I'm not sure which scares me more: @William Pete Hodges and his electric unicycles or those of you riding Onewheels. A pilot I know who is substantially shorter than I am managed to break his collar bone riding a Onewheel. I have farther to fall and managed to escape my youth without ever...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

No farmer here would consider that situation to be weird. Consider yourself lucky! :) In other news, I am now night current in everything I'm rated to fly. So it's definitely fall. In late June, 'night' for currency means 10:56 p.m. to 4:55 a.m. and I just don't fly much during those hours. In...

    Aviation Etiquette

I've considered throwing an OBD-II code reader in my flight bag and making "Hey, that guy turned off the check engine light in the courtesy car!" into my calling card.

    Aviation Etiquette

“Courtesy” is in the name of the car. Do leave your contact info in case they need it back. Do bring cupcakes or cookies to the staff at the FBO if they let you use it longer than the normal limit. Don’t take it off road through a river and destroy the engine. Don’t drive it out of state for the...

Nan Chang CJ-6A mid-air LA County

It's like anything else in flying. It is a skill that requires specific training to know how to do correctly and how to recover safely when someone makes a mistake. Compare it with stall/spin training. If you don't know or don't remember to handle the plane correctly, you'll pull back when you...

how to go broke in one swipe of the pen...

When you buy a warbird, the lack of a signed purchase agreement isn’t the thing that proves you’re insane.

An evening with a B17 in Atwater CA

Is this a fly-in event? What is the airport code? I’ll be traveling probably the wrong direction that day, but if the weather is bad enough on my route I want to know where to divert. :)

Record judgment in tour helicopter crash

It’s a record verdict but I didn’t see in the article how much the judgment will be. I don’t know NY law, so I can only wonder if the jury was asked to allocate fault and, if so, how they did so among the parties.

Congratulations on the plane. Don't skip leg day.

    Commercial Passenger Drop-off at LAX

Thanks everyone. We've found a way to accomplish the trip without involving LAX at all. Rewatching the LAX episode of the "Real World Coast to Coast" video series I purchased years ago helped with the decision. (It was the segment of the video captioned "2 hour taxi" that did it for me.)

Talk about a travesty of justice.

They could have at least ordered restitution of some part of the fees that people paid and/or the fees they will have to pay to legitimize their certificates/ratings.

First plane? Archer, Arrow, etc. any recommendations

The law of diminishing returns gets really expensive as you get closer to 200 knots. For a 500-mile flight, a 150-knot plane will take 3+20. Upgrading to 175 knots gets that down to 2+52, saving 28 minutes. To save the next 28 minutes, you need to get a 210-knot plane. The next 28 minutes...

    Commercial Passenger Drop-off at LAX

One thing you can’t count on at LAX is waiving any fees based on avgas purchases. Rampfee.me is confusing too, with prices from $25 to $182 for a light piston twin. Probably user error entering some of those figures.

    Commercial Passenger Drop-off at LAX

I figure a couple hours just to taxi to the FBO if they stick me on the north side for landing.

    Commercial Passenger Drop-off at LAX

I am looking at bringing a passenger to LAX to catch a commercial flight next month. Assume I am comfortable but not thrilled flying into KLAX itself, so it's an option but not a requirement. What are the best ways to get my passenger from my little bird to the big one? Thanks!

    Scooters safe for GA?

I have a pair of Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30P scooters. I have a stretch of gravel 1/4 mile long from my house to the pavement, part of which is a fairly steep grade. The scooters handle the gravel just fine. The problem I have with them is that the folding point is too high on the steering...

Hot starts and engine shut downs

We can’t find it anywhere. It’s really scary. Kind of like when Grant was sworn in and they couldn’t find the nuclear football, except that Ted doesn’t have Johnson’s restraint.

Hot starts and engine shut downs

This is why I’m morally opposed to big Continentals in taildraggers. It becomes a 4-hand dance and I can only muster 3.

    D. B. Cooper: the Barnowsky scenario

My best guess is that spy rings use online discussion of DB Cooper, Amelia Earhart, and MH 370 to send secret messages.
