FFS. I need a new hobby.

No way. He might not be very bright, but there’s no way he is dumb enough to own an airplane and draft horses. :)

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

My wife is overseas visiting family. The transatlantic flight was delayed a little bit, then had to fly lower altitude (which might warrant its own thread—is that because the Atlantic tracks were full at the new departure time?) and then needed more fuel as a result, and then about 2-1/2 hours...

Cheapest way to build retract time

Every time I fill my car. And I have a very high success rate. There is only one station in my county that I know of where the 91 octane gas has ethanol. Of course, gasoline blending is probably one of the most regionally varied things in America. It’s a little bizarre to think that you can get...

That pedal-powered combine sounds awful. No wonder your harvest takes so long.

Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

What part of the language in 91.157 do you think is either ambiguous or clearly against what the OP sought to do? From what I quoted above, I think it unambiguously allows the OP’s scenario. But I’m just one guy reading part of the rule and I’m here to learn, so I’m hoping to hear more about...

Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

It’s not exactly a loophole. It’s a regulation. I can’t find any rules about when it can and cannot be used in 91.157. What it says is “Except as provided in Appendix D, section 3, of this part, special VFR operations may be conducted under the weather minimums and requirements of this section...

"US President" goes bananas on Frontier flight

I'm reminded of this guy's joke, about Spirit but pretty much on-topic. Skip to 1:00.

    Our move to Texas

None of them looked a day over 100. Or under it.

    Comet from the flight levels

Nice pictures. We saw it (naked eye, binocular, and photos on the full-frame camera) at 0 AGL. I got to take pictures of the eclipse, some of the best aurorae I’ve seen, and a comet all in one year.

Is Broken at 1300 considered VFR?

It’s VFR but definitely an appropriate use of SVFR to fly a normal pattern. Is the TPA of 1,000 charted or could you have flown the pattern at 800 AGL? For me, the bigger concern is getting to the field. I cruise at 8,000+ so the ceiling you were working with would have been underneath me...

A fly-in for the rest of us.

I also wonder if there is a way to trigger a review of the objections. The OBJECTIONABLE I flew into was 64G Page, northwest of KFAR. The A/FD says "Objectionable / Traffic pattern conflict with Conrad & Thompson arpts. In addition man-made or natural objects obstruct." I can't find a Conrad or...

    GTN 650 question

It probably also flips the To/From indicator on any connected CDI/HSI, as an additional alert that you may need to turn to a new DTK.

    GTN 650 question

I do believe it's a To/From indicator and that it does the temporary flip when crossing GPS waypoints, just like an old-school CDI indicator would do when you crossed a VOR and promptly tuned the next one.

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

Airline dispatching. Understanding the atmosphere. Dreaming. They're not made for pilots, they just happen to be very useful to pilots.

    Air-to-Air P-40 Warhawk

Wait… did you use a B-25 as a photo platform? I am absolutely in the wrong line of work.

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

As far as I can tell, that one does not provide any locations in my entire state. This one is harder to use but at least it's something. Thank you.

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

Where? If you mean the Storm Prediction Center website linked to in post #3 above, it's not the same information. That website provides "current and recent observed radiosonde data." In other words, it reports conditions at the past time and specific location of actual balloons launched into the...

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

Can anyone tell me why they also disabled the non-graphical presentation of the forecast soundings?

Unlike the gear horn and stall horn, he would have recognized the missile lock tone.
