    Update on Catalina Baron crash

I was agreeing with your point about the ADM temptations for this flight, but wondering what the decision really looks like on the ground. Is there a half-reasonable place to sleep at the FBO, or is the choice simply between sleeping on the tarmac and takeoff?

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

Is there a couch at the FBO or anything of the sort? I’ve slept in a disused gate area in Atlanta, on the dirty carpet with loud, annoying music, because of an airliner diverting for weather and the next flight being just close enough to rule out going to a hotel and sleeping for 10 minutes in a...

    Update on Catalina Baron crash

It sounds like they started charging before dark but knew it would get dark before they had enough juice to start the engine. They should have charged all night and gotten rooms. Or, better yet, told the stranded folks to get rooms and come to get them in the morning if there were known issues...

FIA Flight Instructor Airplane written exam completed today

I think it's a bad idea to get 100% on a written test. Now the examiner is going to really try to stump you!

Is that a Lycoming engine parts mat, like those gun cleaning mats that show an exploded parts view of some gun?

    New panel for a 206

When the G3X began life, I believe that it was only for experimental aircraft. The original G3X came out in 2009. The G3X Touch, still experimental-only, came out in 2014. The approvals to install it in certified planes came in 2019. The G3X family talks to its own LRUs with CAN bus and has some...

    New panel for a 206

As far as I can tell, the prerequisite for Database Sync is an ethernet (HSDB) connection between LRUs and the G3X Touch does not have that. G3X Touch displays only talk to other devices by CAN bus and RS-232. We can hope that a G3X Touch successor will fix that, but it's possible Garmin...

It would be pretty hard to miss that on the yoke.

Does anyone here know how the control locks work on a Honda Jet?

Yes, the G500 TXi works with Database Sync and therefore Database Concierge.

    New panel for a 206

One downside of the G3X Touch is that it does not support Database Sync, which is the intra-panel mechanism that makes Database Concierge work. And the updates are slow, about 15 minutes per screen. I like to run the two screens in parallel to save time, so I bring 3 SD cards to the plane and...

    Tires for F-450

I learned about ply ratings when I bought a Chevrolet 1500 and got 3 flat tires the first week I had it home. We don't have mesquite, but our "gravel" roads are usually surfaced with scoria, which is a localism for a type of clay baked by naturally burning coal veins. Thousands of miles of...

    New panel for a 206

This should be your mantra. The process starts out bouncing between the zero-marginal-cost existing panel and the chartering-a-jet-would-be-a-better-value whiz-bang panel that everyone on POA tells you to build. Awesome panel pulls you up, bank account pulls you down, over and over. Each trip...

    New panel for a 206

The 750 Xi will show 6 lines at a time, which includes the "next checklist" button. So if you have more than 5 lines in a list, you have to scroll. I found it was less annoying to just trim down to 5 lines than to have 6 and scroll to the next list button. Some lists ended up being longer, but I...

    New panel for a 206

I'll have to take some pictures or make a video to show it in practice. But basically the G3X Touch shows more and longer lines without scrolling and makes it much easier to jump to another checklist compared with the GTN. The sad irony here is that the G3X plane is much simpler, so it was in...

    New panel for a 206

Just to reply to the OP's actual options: Option 1: I'd rather have just the GNC 215 than a GTR 205 + KX155. Better yet, a GNC 215 + GTR 205. To save money and lose only VOR and ILS, just get a GTR 205 and skip the nav radio altogether. Only you can decide if the risk of a GPS outage in IMC is...

    New panel for a 206

Very valid point. I have a GTX 345 and they configured my GTN 750 Xi to control it, which is redundant and a little annoying because the transponder controls eat up a couple of always-visible data fields from the GTN. There are trade-offs to be had, and I don't think there is a single right...

Burglary is defined as some combination (it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction) of these elements: breaking, entering, a dwelling-house, of another, at night, with intent to commit a felony and/or theft therein. My guess is that the Montana burglary statute is flexible enough to cover...

    Tires for F-450

What type of Falken? The type the local shop has looks very highway-only to me, but maybe they can order in something different since they carry the brand.
