ADHD … is it a death sentence?

I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!!"

    Bellanca Super Viking

In the 70's when I flew out of VNY there was an outfit called Rent-A-Plane. Mel (owner) took all kinds of planes on leaseback and rented them out. Among his many planes were two Vikings. One wound up a ball of tubes and splinters in San Diego (fuel mismanagement) and the other - don't...

    182 Crash in Los Angeles

VNY was my home airport in the 70's and got my instrument rating there. I'm sure the stories were exaggerated but supposedly quite a few people have been "vectored" into those mountains. We didn't have the devices then that we have now - moving maps - so today there's no excuse for running...

ADHD … is it a death sentence?

My last girlfriend, a nurse, had/has ADHD. She was on Adderall which, in my estimation, was more of a problem than the underlying psychological issue it was supposed to help her cope with. I never got to know the person that was underneath the Adderall saturated person I did know. She wasn't...

    Ever bounce a night landing?

    > "I literally couldn't tell if it was a big runway far away or small runway closeup. This airport was in the middle of nowhere (Nebraska or Kansas) so no surrounding city lights on a moonless really dark night." That's happened to me, more than once, same situation. Middle of nowhere after...

    Experimental and FIKI

If I think I might run into icing I spray the leading edges and prop with WD-40.

    "Felony With a Vehicle"

What it brings to mind . . . my wish that yakking on a cellphone while driving was a felony. I'm so damn sick of drivers being unpredictable, being non-responsive at lights and intersections, drifting into adjacent lanes as if uncertain which lane they want to drive in, running over animals...

    Garmin Aera or FF Stratus

Take a look at this software running on the DELL Venue 8 Pro Model 5855 with 64GB. Although I'm sure everything runs fine on the earlier 3000 series DV8Pro that the company sells, the new 5855 is a significant improvement with 4GB memory, faster processor and internal GPS...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

    > "The traffic data is live, with no measurable delay . . ." I didn't say anything about the traffic showing with delay. I said the weather is too dated to be useful for threading cells. Your post agrees with that assessment I think . . . I understand one can get good at five or six minute...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

I haven't been tempted to invest in anything ADS-B yet. This whole market is still very much in the early adopter phase and I have a pretty good idea that well before the 2020 mandate hits that, at least in the Experimental world I live in, we'll have ADS-B In/Out units for $500. Or less...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

If anyone is using one of those clunky puck-type magnetic mount (or not) GPS pucks, toss it out the storm window. I recently bought two tiny little USB TYPE-C thumb-drive sized GPS"s on eBay for less than $14 each. The tech comes from Switzerland by way of China and is called a VK-172...

    Older Cherokee owners

That's two . . . at the same airport. If I owned a Cherokee or any plane that uses that same yoke mechanism I'd damn well pull it off and out and put some doublers on it or other metalwork to strengthen it. I'm amazed that an emergency AD hasn't already been issued.

    All the Little Pieces . . .

The Bonanza break-up over Long Island has me wondering. If reports are correct that "hundreds" of pieces of the plane rained down over a large area of Long Island, anybody have any idea just how that could happen? We know of course from the OWT thread that V-tails come off at the slightest...

    DH-114 Riley Conversion

Took these at Merced 2005 or 6 That eBay Heron doesn't have a reserve - unless the reserve pops up only after a bid is made. That's a treasure for somebody . . .

    DH-114 Riley Conversion

    > but compared to this British effort . . . Camped at Findhorn those Nimrods would come in right over my head, dark, ominous-looking planes against the backdrop of gray Scotland sky. The Nimrods look like they have Comet genes and if so, the same fellow who designed the Dove and the Heron also...

    DH-114 Riley Conversion

I was looking up Riley conversions just now and came across this really beautiful creation. There used to be a Dove sitting in the boneyard at VNY in the 70's, but I've never seen a Heron, much less one with the Riley conversion. What a treat.

    [N/A] Dental implants

When we're young an extracted root will "fill in" over six months or so, but those days are over for me. Every implant I get I first put in an allograph (bone graft - just bone material that gets put into the vacancy then the gum sewed up, sometimes with a protective membrane to protect the...

Just got a new plane, Cherokee from a Cessna, what to expect?

Thanks for having all that on hand. Good stuff.
