    NorCal Meetings Eternal page

How many people are coming to Petaluma at noon on Saturday? Tail numbers / names? Hopefully fog will clear up by then (if there is any). That is my home airport, I'll drive, and I might fly after (flying with another pilot just to the practice area to do some maneuvers). Breakfast is...

You want your "Air Cartoon" !?

Sylvain, FYI for the 50th anniversary (2013) they pained "RENO" in gold. It is normally red though and the gold really threw the pylon judges off this year, it was harder for them to judge altitude. Kimberly

    Bob's Ramblings from the PB.

What a great way to help somebody! I'm always looking for ways to give back with my rental airplanes, such as Young Eagles or Angel Flight, but this story takes the cake! I hope he put some clothes on for your airplane ride.

Yes, you are correct. Great pilot stories too (though pilots like to tell the most scary ones).

    2013 Reno Air Races Summary

And hoping to go MUCH faster next year, including trying to break several speed records. Some of those records are over 10 years old. Would be pretty cool.

    2013 Reno Air Races Summary

I continue to work on race planes. The very first weekend back from the Reno Air Races, here I am unloading a plane from a storage trailer. This plane hasn't flown in years, and needs a lot of work to bring it back to Reno 2014 - but the pilot is hoping to break many land speed records with...

Chasing my PPL - Progress Thread...

Hmmm.... maybe I missed two. That was in August 2011. I don't know, for some reason I thought I only missed one (thunderstorms).

    2013 Reno Air Races Summary

I didn't even begin to elaborate on how the Chief Pylon Judge (a volunteer since 1967) helped me draw an 11 x 17 map of the entire (complex) race course according to class. Classes are F1 / Biplane (one set of pylons), then Sport (a different set), then T6 airplanes (yet another set of...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I felt better reading pre-solo and checkride numbers. Didn't solo until 40 hours, checkride at 90, just got my first BFR a few weeks ago from a CFI out in the boonies and learned a LOT. Next thing will probably be taildragger sign off since it takes less time than IFR and I am still paying off...

Where Did You Fly This Week?

Had to change the oil in the race airplane since it indicated over 250 degrees. It was still 100 or more when I let it out into the bucket. Next flight it was below redline at a much more normal 190 degrees. Had to pull the prop too since there was oil and the pilot was worried about the...

Where Did You Fly This Week?

I was on a biplane race crew. Almost better than flying. Releasing planes on the runway during the racehorse start (holding down planes) and changing oil / tires was awesome. Even pulled a prop and torqued the prop bolts (adding safety wire to boot). Reno Air Races, "our" race airplane took...

    2013 Reno Air Races Summary

Changing a wheel which had a stuck brake and flat spots creating some very "interesting" landings in the pitts..... This is a picture of me and the crew cheif separating the tire from the wheel (popping the bead).

    2013 Reno Air Races Summary

Learning about prop wash the hard way. Race crews (for biplane class) consist of the pilot and 3 essential crew members who are allowed past the hold short line and onto the runway. We help the pilot get his parachute on, give him a drink of water, close the canopy and latch it over his head...
