I'd guess New Braunfels (KBAZ) but I've been out of that loop for a while.

This is what I do, and everything I do is right, therefore this is the only correct method.

Where Did You Fly This Week?

Flew to KJKA (Jack Edwards Airport, Gulf Shores, AL) a few days ago for a t-shirt. Here is a shot I took going through the Eglin east-west corridor. Destin (KDTS) is just in front of the nose and you can just make out Eglin on the right edge of the photo on the other side of the Bay.

How far to go for cross country time building?

Yeah I'm currently flying out of the Jax Navy Flying Club. I hope to start my instrument training in a few weeks out of Herlong, I think....we'll see how the price haggling goes. ;)

How far to go for cross country time building?

Good idea! My wife is from Seattle. Also, it would be interesting to fly where MSL and AGL are not effectively the same.

How far to go for cross country time building?

I don't make it "sound" like anything, you just read it that way. At any rate, I don't find it to be tedious work. For tedious work, I fly at night in the back of a helicopter, herding cats and hauling snapple. And as for beating myself up and suffering, that's what I have PoA for!

How far to go for cross country time building?

So I have had my private ticket for a little over a year now, and ever since then my flights have consisted of a mix of short and long cross country flights, the shortest being 52nm, and the longest being 244nm (straight line, anyway). I'm basically just trying to build up time and experience...

Which Pilot Advocacy Group Will Embrace UAS Pilots?

This attitude concerns me. I know 12 UAS operators personally, and every one of them is a certificated pilot that flies piloted aircraft outside of their employment (and a little bit for their employment as well). They are pilots, aren't they? I suppose then, if you are not a...

    Adlog™ aircraft recordkeeping system

We use AdLogs at work, and I think they are really nice if maintained properly. We never handwrite anything into them...everything is on an adhesive sheet and "stickied" in the AdLog books. It is ridiculously easy to find information in them. The discrepancy (or type of inspection due) is...

    FLIR for the Common Man

We've been using Max-Viz for years now and bugs on the lens don't appear to degrade the image at all. Of course the lens is only about an inch around, so it's not very big, and rarely gets more than a bug or two on it before it gets cleaned...

Helicopter fun - Fighting fire from a swimming pool

Shorter lines oscillate less. Long lines give better obstacle clearance.

    FLIR for the Common Man

Wouldn't it be far cheaper to make your cockpit NVG-compatible and buy a set of goggles? Bonus: You have a legitimate reason to wear a helmet!

GA Airplane question: Good All-around airplane

I've done only 4.5 hours in an Mi-8 with auxiliary fuel. I've done 8 hours but that included 2 stops for hot gas. I'm a non-rated crewmember on an Mi-8, btw, not a pilot.

    2013 Aviation Related Raffles

Former military...long, long time ago. Well, a long time to me...not so long ago for some of the old-timers around here. I was only in from 1989-1995, just in time for Desert Breeze...I mean Storm. Now I'm an evil contractor!

    2013 Aviation Related Raffles

Can't wait for the 1940 air terminal drawing tomorrow. I'm in it, but I'm currently in Afghanistan, so obviously I won't be on hand to see who wins.

    test ?

Several times I've heard a controller be straight up blunt about it... I.e. "The field is currently below VFR minimums, would you like to request Special VFR?" Why...yes...yes, I would like to request Special VFR.

Amelia's Landing, Port Aransas, TX, KRAS

One day I'll come visit your place, Jay...one day. I was born and grew up in Victoria, and we regularly went to Port A. for the beach. I miss that place (not Victoria!). Need to take the wife and kid there for a little nostalgia tour!
