    IR EVS should be standard...

How many airplanes have decent shoulder harnesses? How many pilots wear them all the time? I think the single biggest fix in automotive safety came from the inclusion of more/better seat belts, and the fact that these days, nearly everybody wears them.

    IR EVS should be standard...

Quite a few, I'm sure, but should 406MHz be required by law? I agree with AOPA's stance in the issue: Just replace "ELT" with "EVS" and I would agree with that, too.

    IR EVS should be standard...

Big difference between embracing a technology and forcing it down everyone's throats. But hey, if you're buying, I'll take one!

    IR EVS should be standard...

I'm not saying NVG's prevent accidents, I'm saying they are better at preventing accidents than a fixed-forward FLIR, which is what most (all?) commercial, civilian EVS systems are. In other words, would any of the NVG accidents have turned out differently if you would have taken away their...

    IR EVS should be standard...

Just install a radar altimeter, change out your cockpit lighting to be NVG-compatible, put some NVG-filters over your white light instruments, and get some NVG's. I would argue that's far better than a fixed-forward FLIR system.

    iRobot

Same experience here. Our Neato started running for less and less time to where it spent more time charging than cleaning, and after a few calls they just sent us a brand new battery free of charge. This was after maybe a year of owning it.

    iRobot

I've had several iRobot vacuums that never really performed all that well (they were older models). I currently have a Neato vacuum (http://www.neatorobotics.com) and my wife and I love it. I can't say how it stacks up against current iRobot models, but it's definitely better than the older...

US sends bombers into China ADIZ

I think this, but only because of the first line in the article "China scrambled jets on Friday" while the B-52 flight was prior to that. Also, the U.S. "regularly transits" the area. I would actually be surprised if there were not intelligence gathering aircraft of some type in the area.

First flight after getting your PPL...?

I received my PPL on 16 Jun 2012, and every flight since then I have made solo, with the exception of a one hour annual club checkout when I switched to flying the club's Archer instead of a 172.

Something You Will Never Hear On The News

As a "back-ender" in a helicopter (flying trunk monkey), I have a soft spot for when individuals in an aircrew are singled out with no mention of the rest of the crew. I understand that the aircraft commander (PIC) is the guy who ultimately gets the credit (or blame) but I always appreciate it...
