I got reported to the FAA (not a ******* Satire)

Best aviation related subreddit ever! I especially like Rule #1: Anyone caught posting serious, informative content will get a slap over the hand and told to sit in the naughty corner.

    Chinook Rescue

With the massive cojones of the crew chiefs in the back! (i.e. the pilot didn't do that by himself, it takes a whole crew.)

    Blackhawk Anyone?

Comes back for me as a UH-60A owned by Timberline Helicopters. It's N563DJ, by the way.

    [NA]Volvo cars

I had a 2001 Volvo S60 T5. It did have a problem with a fuel pump or something like that related to the fuel system. It ended up becoming a recall shortly after my issue so it must have been more than just me. No other problems and had that car for 8 years. I also had a 2007 XC90, but unlike...

    Rotor strike maintenance actions

For this model helicopter... After tail rotor blade strike, inspect the following: If equipped with Bendix couplings, remove and scrap couplings. Tail rotor blades for dents, nicks, scratches or separation of skin. Tail rotor flapping hinge bolt for damage. Tail rotor transmission for...

“Secret” Airplane @ Pratt & Whitney Florida

If I recall correctly it's an F-35 engine inside a mockup of the tippy tail of an F-35. The shape of the front end is irrelevant for all but conspiracy theorists. It looks just like an F-35 tail sans horizontal and vertical stabilizers.

Time in Make and Model for Insurance Purposes

Just following up. I added my CFI pal to the insurance. Before adding us, the insurance had two named pilots and the annual premium was a $822. After adding me and the CFI, the annual premium has risen to $1933. I am fairly confident that most, if not all, of the rise in premium was for adding...

Time in Make and Model for Insurance Purposes

I'm not exactly sure why the insurance agent wants to add the CFI to the policy. I didn't ask for more details about it because adding him is not expected to increase the premium, so I can't see why I shouldn't add him to the policy. Is having him named on the policy a bad thing if it doesn't...

Time in Make and Model for Insurance Purposes

Thanks for the info! Like I said the answer is obvious I just have to allow myself to see it. ;) Not terribly worried since the instructor has several hundred hours in Barons and KingAirs. More worried about me since I'm very low time and no complex or retract time, but hey that's the reason...

Time in Make and Model for Insurance Purposes

I am sure this is a terrible question and I'm sure the answer is obvious, but just in case.... I am going to get an instructor put on my aircraft's insurance, and it's a C177RG. He has no time in a C177RG, but he does have time in a C172RG. Can he count his C172RG time as Time In Make and...

Another Johnny Cupcakes fan! My "callsign" is cupcake at work and it seemed like a natural fit. I have the stickers everywhere!

Minecraft Pocket Edition (running / connecting to private server)

Yeah right now the PE and Desktop version are separate. But I should point out that even if you get the desktop version and put up your own server, you'll still need a Mojang account to use multiplayer, even if you only ever connect to a private server.

Minecraft Pocket Edition (running / connecting to private server)

Setting up a personally-run server for Pocket Edition is probably not worth the time. Those versions lack AI (and therefore have no mobs at all) and also lack redstone. You can rent a Realm for like $8 per month and I think those support PE? I'm not sure. If you are talking about the desktop...

We parked by this beast on the ramp today

Erickson owns the S-64 type certificate now. They bought it from Sikorsky in the early '90s.

I will quote from the Slashdot comments something that is very true and speaks to your comment...although you may be a Boomer in which case you're two steps removed, but I think it holds up.

    Non-TSO for Certified Aircraft

I almost feel like the more I read in reference to this issue, the more confused I get. The problem is that I'm trying to find an actual honest-to-goodness government reference that prohibits non-TSO certified avionics and instruments for aircraft operated under Part 91, and I just can't find...

    Non-TSO for Certified Aircraft

So what's the rule? Is there a rule? Is there more than one rule? Is there a good resource for determining what can and can't be installed without an STC or some such? I'm terribly curious. I'm an A&P and soon ot be IA but with practically zero GA experience. I'm a private pilot, though, and...

    A better tilt rotor.

That Qalat article actually seemed halfway decent right up until he wrote "ISA (in still air)" after that it was hard to take it seriously. I'm not saying the article is all wrong (EDIT: Nevermind, the article is almost completely wrong, so many details about the incident are just not...

    Exploding Kittens

I made the mistake of teaching my 6-year old daughter the "what did the five fingers say to the face?" joke, and now I'm surprised when I get slapped. :/
