IPC or CFII as a safety pilot?

It certainly saves time. In real life I think unusual attitudes are actually a surprise which is experienced during high workload situations. But in training you need to set them up. Holds are high work load and telling the pilot that they need to remain in the holding airspace when they...

Filing IFR routing at my home field

Are you talking about launching VFR and then calling approach for a clearance with no Inst. Plan on file? If that is the case I would not expect a warm welcome from PHL approach or any class B for that matter. That said, I've had it go both ways outside class B airspace. Usually they just get...

IPC or CFII as a safety pilot?

I agree. I find holds are intimidating for many pilots, especially those who don't have modern gps navigators. In those cases I use the first time around to let the pilot settle down, but 1 is sufficient.

IPC or CFII as a safety pilot?

What long list? Rigid yes, but not long. 1.3 hrs. max if you are proficient and efficient not including time to get to a suitable airport. Vectors to a precision approach (ILS or LPV <300'). Fly the published miss. Two times around the hold with unusual attitudes while holding...

    Calling all Videographers. Equipment Question

I have one of these for recording youth soccer matches: https://www.veo.co/us/camera/ I am wondering the following: 1) Would this be suitable for mounting beneath Lady Luscombe (LL) and panoramic recording? If so any mounting hints or tips? 2) Is there adequate post production stabilization...

Filing IFR routing at my home field

I've been doing this frequently out of PTW. PTW to PTW Route: KRDG. Remarks: Pilot training, multiple approaches. Ship has only VOR/ILS. In contrast to their problematic VFR services RDG has been spectacularly good with IFR services. Asked for and received numerous modification to published...

Luscombe vs Champ vs Sonex or none of the above?

Just feedback on the Luscombe. Hanger or no hanger. Metal Luscombe 8A was my choice because no hangar and no electrical hence no x-ponder/adsb operating under the PHL class B. BUT A-65 engine parts are getting scarce and expensive. If looking at Luscombes look for a ship with wing tanks and...

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

Passengers are a big danger. Short of diverting because they are dying or experiencing and uncontrolled panic attack passengers are best ignored except during cruise.

    Experimental Implications

I know this is a thought exercise, but. Before challenging the FAA on anything think through all the possible consequences. See Warbirds.

    Experimental Implications

To my knowledge only the transponder and ADSB-OUT must meet TSO requirements to be legal for use in the national air space system under part 91. If the "experimental" avionics are TSOd then they meet that requirement. I see no reason why other Non-TSO or even avionics marketed as experimental...

    FBO woes

I occasionally end up at places like that. I say top-her-off even if it is just two or three gallons. In Lebanon, NH if you say those magic words you not only get the fee waived they give a very nice bottle of grade A maple syrup. So, six gallons later the value of the maple syrup brought my...
