Callaway Gardens... drive do not fly

My favorite mentor encourages me to keep things in perspective. My wife is like yours, she won't fly with me in my Warrior. If it isn't Boeing, she isn't going! It would be wonderful to have the expense and hassle of renting a car at any GA destination but the wife won't hear of it.

    PC-12 midair breakup?

This crash makes me think of Robert Kennedy going into the sea in his complex Piper. My Piper Warrior is incredibly hard to stall, as you get to the more complex airplanes I think that you can get into trouble much easier. Granted, many folks have lost their lives in non complex...

    Suggestions for Orlando flight

I love the folks at the Kissimmee Jet Center. Facilities not super fancy but friendly folks and very reasonable fuel and great service. I sure would use that rather than KORL.

10nm water crossing tomorrow. Any advice?

I have done the Miami to Bahamas run in a single engine. The folks are correct that you should be fine. If you are that concerned is it possible to fly it at 9500 feet?

    South Florida Vaction PIREPS

I have stayed in the Hilton near Whited Airport. It is a pretty short walk from the airport to the Hilton. The beach is a great family thing. Bush Gardens across the bay in Tampa is great, as is the Tampa Lowrey Park Zoo.

Personal Financial advice for an elderly person

I recommend John Bogle's books on investing. If you read "Common Sense on Investing" it might make sense for her to consider Vanguard's low cost mutual funds. At age 79 Bogle's recommendation is 79 percent Bonds or Bond funds and 21 percent Stocks or stock funds. (Have your age in Bonds...

    707 question

I am having a little trouble finding takeoff performance for the 747 SP but I appreciate the feedback. Probably with enough fuel for a 2 hour flight the SP could take off on a relatively short runway.

Need Feedback on Favorite Scenic Flights in the U.S.

I agree with the Florida Keys. Here is one of extreme South Florida on the way back from the Keys at sunset.

    707 question

My dad was a 747 pilot with Pan Am and I recall him saying that the SP climbed like a bat out of hell. I understood that it was powered like a regular 747 but shorter and lighter. Of course, if you loaded it with lead it might have trouble taking off!

    Florida pan handle airspace

I went through the Tyndall MOAs at night once and they were very quiet then also. I agree with those who say that travelling that airspace is not a problem at all, the controllers are very accommodating.

Cleveland pilot decides to become a phony hero. Cost: $489,000

I agree! Years ago the idea of "Big Brother" watching us caused concern. These days not so much, we are watched a lot! I made the occasional crank phone call, now technology has made that prank obsolete.

Cleveland pilot decides to become a phony hero. Cost: $489,000

I did it at 17 just for something to do. With a flying club with cheap Cessna rental rates and 42 cents a gallon it wasn't the major financial commitment it is today. I am enjoying another career besides flying which allows me to fly as a hobby.
