    Arrival vs Departure procedure

Departing KGTU arriving KSSF. Yes, you'll fly whatever ATC gives you, but on the off chance they give what you filed I'm wondering if there's an inherent advantage to one over the other. The DPE made me file an arrival for my checkride but I haven't since. But then, I haven't filed into a...

    Arrival vs Departure procedure

I'm planning a flight from KGTU to KSSF. They're close enough that the BNDIA2.BNDIA departure pretty much overlaps with CWK.MARCS1 arrival. Which would you choose and why? BNDIA2.BNDIA CWK.MARCS1

When to slow to approach speed

I thought I had seen some discussion on this but nothing showed up in a search.... I've had my IR for a couple of years now. When I first started using it I would slow to approach speed after passing the IAF so I wouldn't get behind the airplane (as much anyway). Now it seems like I'm just...

    Circling Approach Question

For the circling approach on my checkride, I flew over the runway to enter a standard pattern. The DPE told me I had enough space to enter on a base leg. Not that what I did was wrong. It just wasn't the most efficient way. So he wasn't expecting me to fly a standard pattern. YMMV

How far into the approach with an autopilot

From what I read in the 55x manual it looks like it’s ok to the map. I was just wondering even if it’s good to the map, do you use your autopilot all the way there or turn it off at some intermediate point.

How far into the approach with an autopilot

I searched around and couldn't find anything on this. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong :-> I recently went from an airplane with a wing leveler to one with GPSS/coupled approach. At first I used heading and vs mode to the FAF. I started playing around with coupled approaches and thought way...

Foreflight - Add approach to flight plan for approach at intermediate airport

I'm planning an IPC in Foreflight with approaches into a couple of airports. I can figure out how to add an approach at the first airport to the flight plan. When I tap procedure in FPL it just gives me the final destination. When I navigate to procedures in the intermediate airport details I...

I have chosen FlyQ for my flight app. Love it.

I don't mean to sidetrack the the discussion but... :-) I've used FlyQ for several years as an IFR tool and it does everything I need. Of course, I never fly with twenty leg plans so being able to transfer plans just isn't that big a deal for me. Oops, sorry for the snarky comment :->

    Pondering a new Plane Purchase

Same here. I sold my Grumman, found a Cherokee six to rent, and am now looking for an aerobatic experimental. Forgot how much fun shopping for a plane was :-)

    Cherokee 6 fuel

Thanks! Any idea where that's documented?

    Cherokee 6 fuel

Well, the Grumman has gone east (literally) and I'm renting until I can figure out my next step. I've found a 1969 Cherokee 6 300 to rent and can't find the answer to a fuel question. I've looked in the airplane manual and the archives and no joy. The inboard fuel tanks have tabs. How much fuel...

    Garmin GX simulator

Well, I figured since it came out late 90's it would run under NT compatibility. Silly me. Just wonder if Garmin "poisoned the well" with the demise of the unit

    Garmin GX simulator

I've started renting a plane with a GX60. I've been flying behind a g400 series so somewhat familiar with the buttonology/knobology. I used the 4xx simulator extensively and found a simulator on the Garmin site for the GXx series. Problem is I can't get it to install on my Win7 SP 1 machine. I...

For Sale: Aircraft 1974 Grumman AA5 Traveler

Uppish. My grandkids are getting bigger so I need a little more useful load. Not sure what that will be yet. Leading candidates are Tiger, 182, Cherokee 235. I thought the price was too high but I was talking to a guy this last week that sold his Cheetah with 1800 SMOH for $36k. The market is...

    Inexpensive twin

I'm at about 500 hours. One of the "interesting" jobs is pictography so yeah, the twin time is important. Pipeline and banner not so much. Just weighing options. And if I can convince the boss It makes financial sense to buy a twin vs renting more the better :-)

    Inexpensive twin

Rest of the story. I'm a 61 year old instrument rated private pilot. I'm a teacher and have committed to my class that I will stay through next year. I should have my commercial done by the end of the summer. I wouldn't think a regional would be interested but who knows in this day and age. I'm...

    Inexpensive twin

OK, I know the two don’t really go together. But everything is relative:-) I’m looking down the road to a part 135 job and need to get multi and build time. This would be a replacement for my current single bug smasher. Basically needs a low acquisition and low maintenance cost. Four place is...

    Rebate Flight?

I Passed mine the second try. Flew at 10.5 for 45 minutes from an airport with no ground coverage. Maybe it's the device. I put in a Stratus ESG. My problem the first time, I was only at 6500. I had minimal errors on that flight. With the Skybeacon you might need to keep it off until airborne...
