    Weird Annual Billing

I'm fine with that as long as its clearly tracked it's all peace of mind knowing everything was actually done

    Landing on Highways

I had the same question. Probably fixed gear aircraft with gear sinking into the mud and cartwheeling the aircraft.

    Weird Annual Billing

I think it depends on the shop, my last one charges 95/hr and annual was flat 2400 (retract beechcraft). He had it done in a day and a half, so I'm fairly certain he didn't work through the night to get 25 hours of labor. Plane was in decent shape and he was able to breeze through it and I...

    Weird Annual Billing

Seems normal to me however I don't like the system. Annual should be done by the hour just like other jobs IMO. I paid a flat rate + AD Time on my last one and I feel like I got fleeced because I know that had it been billed by the hour it would have been 2/3 the cost or less.

How to choose a cruise RPM for tach time on JPI 930

You should set it at whatever you normally cruise at. I generally cruise io470k at 2450, so I would set it at 2450 as that will give you a true indication of how many hours you have been using the engine between oil changes etc. You *can* cruise at 2100 rpm but do you? You *can* cruise at...

    Do Yuou Self Insure

I'm fully insured at the moment since I just bought the plane and the likelihood of me messing is up is higher for the first year or so. I'll likely drop to liability only after that. IMO liability is cheap, even as a low time pilot on a high hp retract aircraft it's only 500 bucks a year. Not...

Oil is down 18% in the last 30 days. When will it be reflected in avgas pricing?

I think that most of your local municipal places are not gouging, but when you look at the spread in the same region it's pretty obvious that they aren't all playing by the same rules either. Within 50 miles of my home base 100LL ranges from 4.95 to 9.70. What intrigues me is the economics of...

    Swapping from GEM602 to GEM603, need A&P?

Hey guys, So I have a gem602 engine monitor and have picked up a 603 (the 603 is identical just with a numerical readout for EGT and CHT). Plug and play, no wiring. Is that something that I can legally swap or does and A&P have to do it?

Could this be a common feature of automated phone systems?

Maybe try "give me a dead person" and see what you get?

Could this be a common feature of automated phone systems?

I find screaming "HUMAN" into the phone usually works. Repeatedly hitting "0" usually works too.

Can I treat a bicycle as a CFI business expense?

I'm not going to argue any of your statements as they are obviously all valid. I was simply talking about it from a tax writeoff perspective. A gym in an office building is certainly a tax deduction, however the business owner's mountain bike is not. I was not arguing the fact that a mountain...

Can I treat a bicycle as a CFI business expense?

Yeah the "it's for the employees, of which I'm the only one" is not a valid reason for a deduction in any situation. Next, I think it's pretty obvious that a mountain bike isn't really a fitness tool, it's an entertainment tool with a fitness byproduct. Not part of a gym any more than a surf...

    Inverter generators

IMO go to Harbor Freight and grab the Predator version. Less than 1/2 the price and they run like tops. I have the 3500 watt version and used it to run a dehumidifier for 1000 hours straight without turning it off (added a larger fuel tank before someone calls BS lol), no issues and now at 2000...

Are you self employed or working for a flight school? If self employed you shoudl be able to write it off without issue.

    CFI signing off questionable flight

I'm not a cfi so serious question: Can you log it as both? Say part 91 with some instruction?

    CFI signing off questionable flight

Just from an instructing standpoint some of my most useful instruction has been in actual IMC both during and before my IR. Just because you're not making her do a bunch of standard rate circles doesn't mean she isn't actively learning how to fly instruments, and it can be easily argued that a...
