    Oil Analysis IO360B1E

Separate point, but I had my first analysis done at my prebuy. Everything looked good and it gave me some confidence that nothing was majorly wrong with the engine that the seller had patched or ignored. Yes we did a borescope, compression and cut the filter as well. If nothing else it gives...

    Yoke Buttons

Hell I can't even get Alexa to reliably turn my lights on and off, no way I want that garbage in the cockpit :D

    Approach through TFR?

You can fly through a tfr with clearance. To answer your original question, no you can't fly through that terrain even with the clearance to do so

Plane to Buy - Long Term Planning

Necro thread but my advice is try to find the plane with the avionics you want. With your preference list you're looking at a panel that costs as much as a plane, if you can find one that someone else has already done the work to you'll come out ahead. Seems like they days people are getting...

Please advise (poor comms with avionics shop)

Good points. I have to disagree with not passing along what you're told, that's literally the best you can do. Just not answering is much much worse to me than getting a "my supplier is saying tomorrow, it may or may not be tomorrow I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you, I'll let you...

Please advise (poor comms with avionics shop)

Gotcha, There's a fine line between being a pain and being too accommodating of the delays. if you're the "oh no worries just let me know, no rush sorry to intrude" guy and it's you and the "calling every day ****ed off-guy" guess who's going to get the slot? I like to be somewhere in the...

Please advise (poor comms with avionics shop)

I don't think you're out of line. If they say they will update you and they don't you have every right to be annoyed. I never understand this crap, as a business owner customer service is more important than everything else. Period. How far are you from the shop? I'd just stop in for a...

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

Yes they have begun supplying new skins direct from Textron. Not cheap but available at least.

"Your order is ready at locker number 5. Text 'here' when you arrive."

sounds like a rough life :D We have a lot of places around here that just have open lockers for pickups. No secret text exchange like you're talking about, just open face boxes with food in them with the receipt taped to the bag. Walk in and grab your food. No interaction at all. It's done...

    Carb Ice in a Cherokee/Archer?

I had the carb ice up on a Cherokee 140 on my approach to landing on my long XC for PPL. Not fun. Glad to be fuel injected :yesnod:

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

I own a boat, an RV, and and Airplane  The expenses are manageable if you are financially savvy and mechanically able. If you're the type to take it to the dealer and say "just fix it" you're in for a world of financial pain (on the boat, the RV or the plane lol)

"Your order is ready at locker number 5. Text 'here' when you arrive."

I like it as long as it works. My issue comes with what do you do if your food is wrong? Is there someone there to correct it or are you stuck on an endless robocall trying to select the right option? :(

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

That's what I'd recommend. Keep a sharp eye on the market, put hourly email alerts on TAP and Barnstormers and just keep saving until the right one shows up. I was in a very similar boat over the last year or so and kept saving and watching until the one I wanted popped up, sent over a signed...

How to move on from airplane crash

I just finished reading this book: Forever Flying Bob Hoover Bob is considered by many to be one of the best pilots who ever lived. He also had more engine out emergencies than anyone else I've ever heard of, in every conceivable situation, and came out to tell the tale. It really...

Cessna 172H deal - Your thoughts?

Not really an easy thing to do unless you're purposely disconnecting the tach and reattaching it before every annual. I'd be inclined to believe the low hours (which is worse IMO unless it's been hermetically sealed all those years)

    Avionics advice?

Hmmm, All due respect here so don't get all upset but as a 20 hr student you don't need to be looking at buying a baron or a twin of any kind. You're just going to get yourself killed, especially IFR on a weekly "have to go" trip. This has bad idea all over it, like very very bad idea. This is...

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

Well you did specifically say fixed gear so...lol If you're not totally opposed to it id suggest at least giving it some thought. Insurance is higher, annual is a bit higher as well but everything else is the same. Fuel cost is likely the same or lower (flying much faster on not that much more...

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

500+ mile trips are long in a 172, just saying. That Comanche above looks decent for the price. At risk of being ridiculed for suggesting it, Bonanzas fit your bill rather well :) Higher insurance because of the retractable gear on the bo and the comanche.
