How many children does she have now? :D

Collected wisdom of a 100-hour pilot

Just the opposite when I did it. They asked how I was going to find the runway in the dark, and I just clicked the radio, bringing up all of those beautiful blue lights. Quite the positive reaction from my dinner guests.

    Exercise— What’s your routine?

Begin with stretching and agility exercises, standing on tiptoe to reach the fuel cup in the baggage area, then kneeling and reaching under the wings for fuel sumps. Sometimes I work my upper body lifting various "baggage" into the chest-high baggage door and lowering it to the floor inside...

Collected wisdom of a 100-hour pilot

With much of a crosswind, say "watch this--I'm gonna land on just the left wheel!" And after taking friends to dinner at a sleepy airport, say "look out there" then turn on the lights . . . .

What is your shortest Cross country?

KFFA --> KMQI is a walkable "distance" of 6.0 nm, about three-fourths of which is overwater since KFFA is on the Outer Banks and KMQI is on an island in the Sound behind them. It's also the closest fuel . . . I've made several 8nm trips from my former base at KHTW, up the river to I41, a nice...

Long Term Planning for a Fast Comfortable Cross Country Plane

Huh. I bought my Mooney with 62 hours in my logbook, a whopping 5 weeks after my checkride. That will be 12 years ago this summer, and I have ~800 Mooney hours in my logbook now. And I'm still alive . . . . Don't think I'm superman or have superhuman abilities. I also know other pilots who...

Long Term Planning for a Fast Comfortable Cross Country Plane

TBMs are good. Another smaller option (experimental) would be Lancair; I've not kept up with their models, but have seen and know some owners of IV-Ps who are happy with them. Fast! Far! Zoom zoom!! Seems like they have a new model that replaced the IV-P, but the name escapes me. But the fuel...

    Doughnuts in a plane??!!

Cookies are baked. Donuts are fried. Both are good! When it comes to cars and planes, I have no idea what a cookie is. But my computer is full of them . . . .

    Abandoning Garmin Pilot for Avare

I run Avare on a 2-year-old Samsung Galaxy Tab A, wifi only. Works great, cost $179 when new. Just download everything at home or McDonald's (which I've done driving to get google maps to work on it's screen [much larger than my phone]).

    Does this plane exist?

    Aerostar. Fast and efficient.

Engineer's take on the 737 MAX design

And here is part of the problem--you are using standard engineering terms like "dynamic stability" with your own made-up definitions! What you describe as "static stability" is pretty much how us engineers define and use "dynamic stability." You must use the right words, or your meaning will...

Claims of Shoddy Production at Boeing plant in N. Charleston SC

People are not "managed." Equipment is managed; processes are managed; building an airplane can be managed. But people must be led.

Not a good day of flying in NC yesterday

Watch the embedded TV news story, theres a picture showing power line height. They are below the tops of the pine trees. His injuries are to legs & feet. Must have had at least a good shoulder belt. Wonder if he hit the lines or the trees? There's no sign of broken cables or shredded pine boughs.

Not a good day of flying in NC yesterday

I thought the wires were closer to the trees coming that way, unless they've been cut in the last year or two. They were a surprise my first visit, obscured by the treetops on final. It's hard to see in your picture above, but the displaced landing threshold is a far piece down the runway, the...

    IFR Pop-up - Legality

I file with an 800 number--they're rarely in the same state or even region. I've had enchanting conversations about Southern weather with briefers in ND and MN. One time I departed VFR towards inland weather and ILM would never answer my calls (tried about six times), but they had time to talk...

    Karma finally got Mulligan

Assemblers left loctite off of two set screws. Thus, the torque setting drifted during use . . . . This would be a "hardware" fix.

    Husky for Private Pilot Training

Gotta be John Revolta. Don't know of any other Private pilots rated in B-707s . . . . . It's sad that the hangar he built at his hoise is too small for it, but at least the cockpit is shaded.
