    RPM/MP & turbos

There are two kinds of witchcraft going on here. Above, others have addressed the magic of the constant speed propeller and variable blade angles. As air gets thinner, blade angle gets steeper [it takes a larger bite on each revolution], which pushes the plane faster. The other magic comes from...

Pirep: Carl's Jr. Beyond Star vs. Double Western Bacon Cheeseburg

It's not a burger, and doesn't pretend to be, but grilled Portobello mushroom caps [the big ones] sure make tasty sandwiches! The bun can make it filling, but you'll still need to add some protein to make a complete meal.

    Beyond Burger 2.0

I've always heard that the more vegetarian a person is (with pure vegan, no animal-related products like milk or cheese at the extreme end), the more vitamins and supplements they need to take to stay healthy. Wonder what the carbon footprint is for making all of those supplements?

Pirep: Carl's Jr. Beyond Star vs. Double Western Bacon Cheeseburg

Doesn't it have something to do with oil from olives, to make the dressing? :D

Pirep: Carl's Jr. Beyond Star vs. Double Western Bacon Cheeseburg

:confused2: it the veg picked the restaurant, unhappy company. But if the veg picked the restaurant, then the other way around??? No matter how you slice it (sorry, Sac!), ain't eating fake meat. A meal ain't comolete without both meat and veggies, and I'm learning about less bread. For meal...

    Recommend a goal aircraft.

    Realistically, my Mooney M20-C will do this: Gross 2575 Empty 1607 Useful = 968 lb. Fuel burn = 9 gph @ 140-145 KTAS 500 nm => 32 gal + 1 hr = 41 gal, 246 lb. 600 nm => 38 gal + 1 hr = 47 gal, 282 lb. Full fuel = 52 gal, 312 lb. (good for 5-1/2...

    Thinking about a Ford Ranger

2WD. But it sits high enough that everyone asks if it's 4WD. sigh . . . P.S.--mileage goes down to about 18+ on the interstate. Too much drag at 75mph.

    British Airways in gusty winds

Great . . . . Vertical video. Over half of it either eclpised by his finger or aimed at the ground (or roof, it's hard to tell). To say nothing of cnn's full screen advertisement in the middle, which I had to close tgen back up the inanity. Other than that, it's a content-free article with...

    [NA]Best anti-bird devices for porches[NA]

Little birdies are easier to get with a shotgun . . . . Also less likely to cause damage downrange. An ought-six projectile moves fast and goes far, and a swallow ain't gonna slow it down much.

    [NA]Best anti-bird devices for porches[NA]

Install a small tomcat, a full water bowl and a partial food supply. Dad used to have a cat that would take birds from the 2nd floor deck rail, without ever falling off. The other birds will learn.

    Thinking about a Ford Ranger

You're doing something wrong. My '04 Ranger Edge, V6, short bed, 5 speed, gets ~21mpg. It went up recently when I replaced the ignition harness and coil pack, along with not chugging and lurching while slowing down on uphill grades. New plugs helped a little, the rest gave more power and mpg. I...

    Beyond Burger 2.0

Lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled peppers & onions, sauteed mushrooms, hot peppers--it's all good. When it's on top of a thick hunk of meat, with a slice of cheese. And bacon. Just none of that mayo-nasty!!

    Thinking about a Ford Ranger

I want a truck, not a higher-riding car with an open trunk. Need four doors? Get a car. Or a minivan. I keep hearing rumbles that station wagons are coming back . . . No interest at all in any motor vehicle with an automatic transmission [except the hydrostatic tranny in my riding mower]. The...

    Thinking about a Ford Ranger

Inam still enjoying my Ranger beater, '04 with 150,000. Two things bother me about all new trucks: automatic and turbo. I don't wantneither! So I will continue to enjoy my aging Ranger for a few more years. Sadly, though, manual transmissions are getting as rare as hen's teeth in this country...

    M20K Owners

Lots of K owners here: www.mooneyspace.com Running 65% power Lean of Peak will often extend cylinder life and reduce top overhauls. No idea about servicing turbos, as my Mooney doesn't have one. Fly safe! Hope to see you around.

Hold short, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold ...

I got to hold short for 15 minutes in 100° heat so an airliner could land on the crossing runway then taxi back past mine . . . . Nevermind I could have taken off and departed the airspace before it reached short final.

NOTAMS Are Garbage, says the NTSB chief

So if the NOTAM about Somalia airspace is irrelevant to his flight, why is it being presented? Why should we be reading the listed NOTAMs and sorting by applicability to us? Isn't the system supposed to do that? If not, just dump every NOTAM issued in the country for us to wade through for every...

NOTAMS Are Garbage, says the NTSB chief

For my first real XC back in 2007, I went to DUATS. My flight was essentially across most of the width of KY, east to west, then home a few days later. The weather output gave me details from Miami to Boston and west to Chicago. There were NOTAMs from every airport, VOR and antenna within 150nm...
