Pilot threatened with arrest for helping NC victims of Hurricane Helene...excuse me?

Being unprepared for the situation and becoming part of the problem. Or not intending to actually help, just seeing what useful stuff is laying around, unattended, with no electricity to power alarms. Regardless, we are hearing of government being excessively overbearing here. Only...

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

Reminder that there is a strong left turning tendency for Cirrus and all high powered AC. I'm remembering a Cirrus crash at the old Chapel Hill Airport just before it closed where they went left into the grass and never could back into the air. They eventually ran into something left of the...

    Name my dog

Ours escaped to the wild outdoors when my wife left the door open. It was horrible and I prefer not to talk about it. Let’s just say nature abhors a vacuum.

    Planes and hurricanes

Not much first hand but we (CAP) tried to fly to Asheville Saturday afternoon for a photo mission. No power for ATC at Asheville, so the airport was Class-E with Atlanta coordinating one flight at a time in, relays from other aircraft. Solid overcast, we got vectored around for business jets...

Darren Pleasance replacing Mark Baker Jan 1.

Not sure if we’ve all missed this or just me not but I’m just catching up on email and found this from AOPA. Mark Baker will step down Jan 1 as AOPA president. He will be replace by Darren Pleasance. Who is he...

Elon does not read this forum, apparently

The FAA is considering an unmanned flight a change of payload and therefore requires a fresh review to ensure no people will be harmed by an unmanned flight spashing down in the middle of the ocean.

    Flying club q’s

I'm assuming that there would have to be flight instruction. At the very least you'll have to do flight reviews to keep members current. There are equity clubs where members are also aircraft owners.

    Flying club q’s

Yes and no, it depends on the club structure. As presented by the OP, there's zero ownership and it's a rental. If the club is an equity club then members are owners, even if their share is a nut on one of the main gear wheels. At that point they can contribute a usage cost to the club and it...

    Planes and hurricanes

Our little airplanes and hurricanes don't mix well. My wife's cousin once dodged a storm and moved his airplane from St Simon to Charlotte, only to find out the storm was heading Charleston->Charlotte. So he went toward Alabama and the storm turned right and missed Charlotte. But his...

    Mooneys..M20

It’s been a complex journey. That is an Aerostar built Mooney. If you want to go that route, nothing after 1960 is a Mooney because that’s when Al Mooney sold the company. https://lasar.com/buyers-guide

Flight simmers - help me understand the market for super-realistic airplane models

I'm aware. I wanted to talk about where our value for simulators come from, because I have an interest in well developed markets for GA level components so we have an easier time building our certification to avoid vendor lock in. Also, the size of the market for high realism (AATD) level is...

Flight simmers - help me understand the market for super-realistic airplane models

In my CAP squadron, we are building as realistic a simulator as we can. For us, the value is: Motivation for cadets who do well to get time to fly Familiarization for Pilots / Observers who don't know or aren't comfortable with the G1000. Training for Mission Observers CRM training...

    Zenith 750 stol

I'd listen to the safety guy (@wanttaja). Rotex is expensive, but you get what you pay for. You want 130 hp to be to get into and more importantly out of Anywhere. I would avoid a traditional engine like the 0-200 because of the weight. Getting out of Anywhere is harder at higher gross.

California is a governor's signature away from banning 100LL in 2031

I'm not suggesting it's comparable, exactly the opposite. Comparing CC mandates to 100LL mandates are not the same.

California is a governor's signature away from banning 100LL in 2031

There a difference between saying "new cars must have new equipment" and "gas stations can no longer sell gas".
