    Flying to Florida

I’ve found the mayport TFRs to never be a problem. They’re frequently just 2500 ft, but verify because I have see the offshore one taller. The Kings Bay sub base has the P-50 Prohibited area around it so it isn’t just the base that gets touchy. Cool to fly past, well outside the boundary.

    Flying to Florida

It is a great stop, but gas is significantly cheaper 7.5 miles away at Golden Isles (BQK).

    DOGE and the FAA

Agree - he has been very critical of the inefficiency of their review processes. There are literally rockets already built waiting for FAA paperwork to be shuffled before launching. In the end it’s a bureaucracy which has rules and procedures that the workers cannot depart from. There is good...

    DOGE and the FAA

Attached. Important to note that this is a 3rd party’s suggestions, not adopted policies. Several things I don’t like - they advocate for user fees because “Everyone else does it” without consideration of how GA is stifled everywhere else. They expect the FAA to cover its own costs, which is...

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

Which ACS standard number requires the applicant to demonstrate a stall in a turn? They're discussed for certain, which is what I said. But the discussion is theory that doesn't translate well to performance because it's still killing people.

To cross or not to cross?

Scenario 2, you were given instruction to taxi to the runway. The fact that you cross a non movement area on B isn't relevant, you’re going to 34R. If you’re given 2 and you need to stop and do the run up, then respond by saying that - “I need to stop at the run up area”. Typically if I’m in a...

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

#1 cause of fatal accidents is loss of control. Stalls in a turn and accelerated stalls are covered in private training but never experienced. VFR into IMC is #2. Again, talked about but never experienced for real. The accident statistics aren’t wrong.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

A colon at the end of a sentence can completely change the meaning. For example: - Jill ate her friend's sandwich. - Jill ate her friend's colon. I’m going to hell, aren’t I?

Airport base between Orlando and Tampa?

I just accepted a new job in Polk City. Auburndale and Winter Haven look like good candidates, but who knows what things will look like by the time we're moving.

Airport base between Orlando and Tampa?

I think I remember winter haven having a midair between someone taking off and a floatplane that wasn’t in the right spot. Is traffic a problem or just busy? I can call, but do you happen to know the ramp and hangar costs?
