Student wants advice to end up flying a high performance 6 seater safely

If you read into my post that hours are important, I didn't do a very good job of explaining my point. In my mind, to become a safe pilot, you need a lot training that you can't accomplish is much less than 100 hours. Learning to fly at the edge of an airplane's performance envelope, learning...

Student wants advice to end up flying a high performance 6 seater safely

I am always fascinated by these threads. The real problem is 100 hours is too few to become a pilot. You can learn to fly in anything, but it takes time. I learned to fly in a T-28A, a whole bunch of people learned to fly in Stearman's and T-6s. The new T-6 II is a bit more than a 172. My...

There is investing and there is speculating. Both have their place, but require radically different approaches. Investing is focused on not losing money while making a reasonable gain. Speculating is putting a small amount of money at risk of loss in exchange for an opportunity for an outsize...

Any aerobatics planes for someone really tall?

The Waco YMF-5 built in Battle Creek might be worth a look. It was stretched from the original type certificate starting with the C model. Rudder pedals are adjustable, and the cockpit is surprisingly roomy for a biplane. Full disclosure, mine is for sale after 10 years. I have two Wacos and the...

A slightly different headset comparison question...

I can't imagine giving up my Halo head sets. Worn properly, they are as quiet as the Bose A20 I have for passengers, some of the other ITE headsets may be better but the Halo beats the Bose for me. Before you ask, yes, I do fly a quiet airplane... A 1929 open cockpit biplane with a 300HP Jacobs.;)

    Cold calling airplane owners

I got a call about two weeks ago from a guy looking for a 7GCBC. Funny thing is he called on my wife's cell phone. He explained right away who he was and what he was doing. I didn't mind, my wife was a little tense and told him it wasn't for sale. (We were on the car audio system.) Private...

NA: Interesting decisions businesses make - NA

Total fee would have been under $25. Unfortunately, the nearest other dealer for the brand is 50 miles away. I wrote a check for it today. Was further irritated by the myriad forms they put in front of me that didn't apply because we didn't finance. Oh well, it's a nice car.

I was addressing the transaction fee for my situation. Institutions not affected by the Durbin amendment can charge different fees.

NA: Interesting decisions businesses make - NA

Are Debit Card Transaction Fees Regulated? Some debit card transaction fees are regulated by the Durbin amendment, which was added to the 2010 Dodd-Frank legislation. This legislation caps the interchange rate paid to non-exempt card issuers at 0.05% + $0.22. A non-exempt issuer is, with some...

NA: Interesting decisions businesses make - NA

A long time ago I bought a car from the owner of the (small) dealership. I offered him an amount plus my trade-in. He told me the price of the car and what he was willing to offer for my car. (This was before window stickers.) I kept offering a difference, and he kept raising the offer on my...

    Rechargeable hearing aids

I recently switched to Phonak rechargeable. I resisted because I didn't want the hassle of worrying about carrying the charger when traveling. But after trying them I bit the bullet. As most of you know, hearing isn't the problem, understanding is. These are really great. For flying I simply...

    Hangar Etiquette

I finally broke down and bought this: AC TrackTech T1V2 - AC Air Technology Since I had my back fused i couldn't start or turn my PowerTow. They make one with a lazy susan which eliminates the concern about tow limits. Both my tail draggers have full swivel tailwheels so not an issue for me.

    Understanding wind/gust effect with altitude

Small bonus comment: Winds at altitude can easily be above 200Kts in some areas. N Pacific comes to mind.

NA - Training a dog not to bark

I don't know about other breeds, but in our case he barks for a purpose. Means we can't ever live in a subdivision. Great Pyrenees are guardian (not guard) dogs. A friend raises sheep and has about a dozen on different farms. They are work centered dogs and bark to suggest predators go...

    Antonov AN-2 Flight in Germany

Actually, the "jet trainer" model was the "A" and it had an R1300 Wright with a two blade AeroProducts (?) propeller. It had a very slow takeoff, just like the early jets without afterburners. The B, C, D and the Fennec all had the 1820 and had performance near that of a Bearcat and could...

Can't help much. She went on to focus on horses (dressage) and never got an FAA medical or her PPL. She has no problems that I know of and competes at the highest levels of her sport.

Is a lancair IV safe for ex military pilot

you are correct, didn’t write that well. The best, and somewhat humorous example because no one was hurt, was the Diamond glider in the UK several years ago. After lightning struck the two pilots found themselves in seats no longer surrounded by a glider; fortunately they were both wearing...

    Gold Prices

I guess everyone here believes the US dollar is rock solid. Gold is a currency hedge, not much else. The miners are another story. A 10 stock portfolio from a paid newsletter is up 40% in less than six months. I'm not a buy and hold believer (but a big bank, ML, UBS, etc. can't send a sell...

    Today’s stock splits - AAPL & TSLA

Yep, since 1971. 15 cents of a 1971 dollar would buy a whole 2020 dollar. But the rate of printing now is unprecedented.
