    Landing tail low?

Trying to understand the point. The discussion is tailwheel low wheel landings. Is it the low airspeed or the attitude that presents the possibility of disaster?

    Landing tail low?

Very few taildraggers sit at a true stall angle on the ground. A full stall landing (boundary layer separation) will result in the tail wheel touching first. A three point landing is a reduction in lift but not a full stall. Taildraggers are not all the same and no two landings are under the...

    Starlink Beta - Impressive

Thanks to my fantastic telephone coop, I live in modern boonies. Twelve miles to nearest McD, and supermarket. Gigabit fiber at house and hangar on 200 acres. Dirt road when we moved here a long time ago. Single lane "hard-surface" now. It's amazing how much difference there is from one place to...

Anyone ever use a Ground-controlled Approach?

I don't think anyone has mentioned that the reason the military is big on radar approaches is that they can be set up quickly when and where needed. Someone above mentioned arriving in a trailer. Way faster than an ILS to setup. Probably not so critical nowadays, assuming your GPS won't get jammed.

Is there a non-boring IFR trainer?

I saw the headline and thought you were talking about the aircraft... Was going to suggest a helicopter. ;)

    Liability?

I would love to hear from some of the aviation knowledgeable attorneys and maybe the insurance knowledgeable posters. I've always assumed that the main value of liability insurance was having a large pot of money to offer a settlement as a timely and sure alternative to a lawsuit. Also having...

    Inflation, winners and losers

They increased their share of total income 11% and 22%. I did not check the growth of income against inflation. So it's possible your statement is correct. At minimum, the wealth disparity increased substantially. The share of income of all other quintiles shrunk. The lowest by 18%.

    Inflation, winners and losers

Not the top 20% and especially the top 5%. From 1989 to 2019 they gained 11% and 22% of total income. Everyone else lost. Historical Income Tables: Households (census.gov)

$$$? From Jeff Brown's "The Bleeding Edge" newsletter (free daily). "But the Robinhood backer that really makes me chuckle is CapitalG – formerly known as Google Capital. Google’s private equity arm invested in Robinhood’s Series D round. And GV (aka Google Ventures) invested in Robinhood’s...

Their clearing house, which they partly own, wouldn't clear their trades. Their balance sheet was the problem, so improving it was an attempt to get the ability to clear back. All that is just my understanding from what I have read. I don't have enough interest to research it myself. I don't...

Fair enough. I try to understand the large trends and use paid research to make decisions about positions. I am generally trying to find asymmetric bets, that is where my risk is substantially less than the profit potential. So, after November elections, I decided to bet against the dollar...

I'm in no way defending or even supporting them. Allowing sales actually improved their balance sheet, so that was logical. Selecting only some stocks? Who knows, but I would guess it was volume based.

Apparently Robinhood had a cash call they couldn't meet and were cutoff from trading. Today silver is the recipient of attention from social media. Up 7% currently, down from 10% earlier.

There are so many variables in all this that no one philosophy is "best." How much money are you trying to manage, what are your goals, what is your time horizon, are you trying to grow your wealth or retain it, how much time do you have to spend on money management, what tools do you have...

    Inflation, winners and losers

They claim they want 2% but will let it run a little higher to catch up with these below 2% times. I forget - how many years does 2% compounded annually cut value in half? 16?

    Inflation, winners and losers

Two clichés come to mind: Because something is inevitable does not mean it is imminent! Don't fight the Fed! The Fed wants inflation pretty badly, but so far are struggling to get any significant inflation. The real fear in my mind is what they do if they lose control.

Since Robinhood clears through large hedge funds so that they can front run the trade, I wonder if Robinhood got pushed into their position. At $470 we were seeking the greater fool I think.

I wonder if there was a lot of margin involved? If that was the case they could have said no margin purchases? I don't use margin, but own a lot of stocks that must be 100% paid for, no margin allowed. I would think GME would have gotten there.

    Heavy Iron Thread.

At the dawn of civilization, or at least a long time ago, I flunked a simulator ride for NOT dumping fuel. C-141A. two engines out on the same side, couldn't feed fuel on the other side. Crossfeed worked, but I landed hot because of extra weight for unusable fuel. (No flap.) At least in...
