    Does this thing even exist?

T-28s are too heavy for BasicMed. T-6 meets some of the requirements and is within the BasicMed weight limit. Speed would be the issue. Good luck with insurance.

    Overshoot on base to final

A lot of this discussion is because so many pilots really don't understand a basic turn, compounded by the idea that bank angle determines stall speed. I think a "competition aerobatic turn" where the bank is one step and then the turn is initiated with the elevator should be a part of early...

brainstorming request: how to support a wire fence

visit TSC and take a look at hog panels. No tension required, probably for your purposes by angling the so that they are self-supporting.

    Mazda complaint

To each his own; both my wife and I find the torque steering objectionable. I don't think putting the OAT in a corner of the display for example would be asking too much, and I really do feel that the drive feel is awful. It was our mistake, I'm sure others like the car, but as soon as we can...

    Mazda complaint

There is a reason BaskinRobins makes so many flavors. My wife had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that we wanted to replace. (It was either her third or fourth). 2021s not available, so we looked around a little and settled on a Mazda CX-9. As soon as we identify a suitable SUV that compares to the Grand...

    Fixing up a grass strip

I tried various things on my 1800ft strip. The roller on wet ground sounds good. My result was poor. Water pools in the low spots, and those are soft compared to high spots. I suppose you could figure out how to roll just the high spots, but just going down the strip with a roller made mine...

    Tailwheel Training in Southeast

I've not personally flown with him, but I've heard good things about Ron Dillard at M54, Lebanon, TN. Teaches in a Citabria. A weekend might be pushing it, depending on your experience, rudder skills.

    Best GA airplane?

182 isn't aerobatic. For my "mission" a Waco Taperwing is a better airplane.

    Glider attacks on D-Day

Waco CG-4A Hadrian > National Museum of the United States Air Force™ > Display (af.mil) An interesting fact is that Waco built very few of the gliders. As part of it's design requirements, it was mostly NOT metal. So the Waco design was actually built by companies with wood building experience...

What Is The Lowest AGL You Will Slip Prior To Landing

Yep, 10ft or so, maybe a smidgen lower. A lot depends on the airplane wingspan, wing location and cockpit visibility. Probably lower in my Citabria, NLT 10 in the Waco

I've met two that should be famous and aren't. Both MoH recipients.

    Let’s talk stocks

This has been an interesting and fun thread so far. I thought I would comment on newsletter writers. The newsletter business can be very lucrative. Some newsletter writers have long and successful histories. One I subscribe to has an annual audit by a third party; he has beat the S&P500 every...

    Rant-People on vacation

A twist on this problem. Every now and then I get a call from Marriott offering me a "free" stay. Usually a live telemarketer. I usually stop them and say let me tell you the locations I've only gone to when someone paid me to go. Orlando, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Los Angeles. Unless...

who has right of way, backtaxi vs landing aircraft?

I don't in the Citabria, I generally lower 2 notches of flaps for Vx and am climbing by around 500ft depending on wind. At the end of 5,000 ft I am turning crosswind usually. Why would I have waited?

who has right of way, backtaxi vs landing aircraft?

Interesting that some posters above think a runway has to be totally empty before a landing or t/o. Some instructors think their school rules apply to everyone else. Not to long ago, I called departing a runway and a Diamond at the end of a 5,000 ft runway said in what I suspect was an octave...

Do Pilots Understand How An Airfoil Generates LIft? (Survey Says...)

I really enjoyed this thread, and learned (and remembered) good stuff. We need a sub-thread to discuss how to distill this to create a useful explanation for instruction. I'm going with, "it's a really complicated subject based on fluid dynamics. For our purposes we'll simply call it flow...

Flight school owners / CFIs - your thoughts

Recent discussions here and elsewhere have convinced me that many pilots don't really understand basic things like lift. I'm and old timer, and 5,500 hours an 50+ years, I feel like I could learn more about almost every aspect of flying. As Rod Machado says, a cockpit is a terrible classroom.

Yep. It's all about relative wind.

    Landing tail low?

There seems to be much confusion about this point. Much of it is caused by pilots referring to three point landings as "full stall." There really are three types of landings in a taildragger - wheel, three point, and full stall. But there are only two commonly used names. Even full stall is not...
