Buying a plane that isn't local.

I bought a plane sight unseen half way across the country. The inspection was detailed and unbiased. While it cost quite a bit, it was worth it for peace of mind.

Gas leak on cold start in C182

How are y’all getting more than 3 shots of primer? Mine gets really difficult to push in past 2 1/2 shots. 4 shots feels like I’m going to break something. C182 P

Best Plane To Buy With 1k Useful Load Under 100k$

my 182 with myself (170) wife (130), two Labradors (2x 80), the a/c-cooler (40) and a week worth of luggage (80). We are pretty close to maxed out with full fuel. Add 3000’ density altitude and it’s a sluggish ride. I have the TrollTune Stc for 150 extra lbs to keep that extra cushion. Its...

I love those, great useful load.. but just wow on insurance and upkeep. Parts are very limited and if I recall every single airworthy one has damage history. sweet plane though and tons of interior space.

    Vectored into smoke

Yesterday I was doing practice approaches with a cfii. Being vectored to final I’m under the hood. Before me was a pretty significant plume of smoke, which got me thinking. If you were actually in IMC and went through a plume of smoke, what would be the reassurance your aircraft was not the...

Recommendations for Socal (KCRQ) - El Paso (KELP) - Enid (KWDG)

I did that route to El Paso from Bakersfield CA. We had contact with FF for the majority of the trip at 9500 feet. There’s no a whole lot of scenery to extra altitude is fine. If El Paso approach gives you the vectors around the mountain between the border, that’s a cool experience.

    C208 and Paraglider midair 12/21/21

yes, but what happens if you’re on an ifr flight plan and receive further instructions from ATC. Your head goes back in the cockpit to twist knobs, jot down clearance, etc. The closure rate at 160+kts happens quick. An audible or visual warning in the cockpit may have changed the outcome.

    C208 and Paraglider midair 12/21/21

well birds would be nice too, but they refused the 2020 ADSB mandate.

    C208 and Paraglider midair 12/21/21

It was a powered paraglider. He hit the wing causing a loss of control. After seeing the 208 crash site and picking up pieces in 5 gallon buckets, those paragliders need ADSB. Sad loss of life.

    O-470 chilled cylinder (Skylane)

I’m not familiar with avblend. However, I did try again and added carb heat with aggressive leaning. It began to run a lot smoother during my time in the ground. Once airborne at cruise everything smoothed out. I just suspect it’s a crummy induction system.

    O-470 chilled cylinder (Skylane)

I had the same feeling. However, it was my wife who pointed out it was running rough. So I cancelled the flight. It was also the coldest day I’ve flown my (still new to me)aircraft so I went with the cautious route. Now I know

    O-470 chilled cylinder (Skylane)

Ok, call me crazy for over analyzing this.. Cylinder No. 5(the forward right) is always incredibly slow to warm up to operating temps. move had a compression check performed, indiction leak test, new spark plugs, but no help here. I have a JPI-830 and it fortunately shows CHT for all...
