    GFC 500 Service Bulletin

I saw this. My trim servo recently went crazy and shut down the whole AP system. There was not a loss of trim control, but it definitely spent a week back at the avionics shop chasing bugs.

    Engine Heater

If you ordered the Reiff again would you opt for the 100w bands? I’m considering this thanks!

    Engine Heater

I have used the twin hornet for about a year. I appreciate having it there and definitely can tell a difference in starting. Typically my engine is in the 57-60deg range when it’s in the 40s in the hangar. I still kind of want the hot bands for my O470. Really I want a oil cooler heater pad...

Is the 182 the plane for me?

I stand corrected. Just pulled out WB and my TrollTune stc paperwork. Full fuel useful is just shy of 800. Which is honestly more than I’d be comfortable to carry. Especially on a hot Texas day. When I plan, I still use FF WB and stay under 2950. I just like the option if the need shall ever arise.

Is the 182 the plane for me?

about 950lbs with the Trolltune STC for those long trips with full fuel. Hard to beat that!

    Weekend Instrument ground school, thoughts?

I took the American flyers weekend course after doing an entire ground school and getting a separate endorsement. It was simply a review session for the test. Im still glad I did it, but would in no way recommend it for someone without a thorough understanding of IFR flying. It scratches the...

Is the 182 the plane for me?

I’m biased, but love my 182. Regularly fly with my wife, two 75lb dogs and luggage galore. The useful load is a wonderful thing. I am going to agree about open window ops. Back when I was flying 172s, I kept the windows open often. Now I almost never open the windows after departure. It’s loud...

    Too Hot for Comfort?

The IcyBreeze isn’t too cumbersome. Mine loaded with ice and a freezer pack weighs 47lbs and I just pack my soft(light weight) luggage around it. I know my dogs love it and it keeps my wife exceptionally happy.

Which one of you shot off a large rocket today (5/19/22) near Houston?

That would have stumped me as well. I didn’t hear any chatter from the group around the airport (KIWS) as word usually travels fast. very interesting and hope to hear more

    Best Portable ADS-B IN?

I like my StatuX waay better than the Stratus 3. You would think the more expensive model would win, but the signal strength has no comparison.

    Preparing for IR training

What helped me was to fly almost every lesson as a cross country and hit as many approaches on the way. 3 times a week minimum, (seriously). And find a school that’s 61, get comfortable with 2 primary instructors for schedule flexibility and varied learning. if your primary instructors aren’t...

    Is the phrase "rolling" useful?

I had a departure control at an untowered airport ask me this. He gave me a clearance without a void time. That hasn’t happened, so I called back and said, “for clarification ,am I cleared for departure?” He replied, “are you rolling”. My reply, (confused), “um I can be in 20 seconds” Departure...

    CO Alarm Help

I had this issue as well in my 182. Took it in for an exhaust inspection, they found nothing. So I started looking around. I even bought a secondary CO monitor because the readings seemed strange. I can’t recall where I found it, but someone pointed out that during taxi and flight, the...

    Garmin G5 HSI

I have a funny preflight procedure concerning the G5. I’ll set it to airport altimeter setting. It is habitually 40 feet higher than airport elevation. what I also do is set the steam altimeter to field elevation. I like having both to reference. only when I level off at cruise will I set the...
