So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Had my first solo today, at a busy Class D. The flying was easy but the airport was busy and it threw in a few challenges so that was a lot of fun. I've flown 15.8 hours since 1-Nov and am now progressing nicely.

Pa32 lands in pits at Pomona dragstrip

That would explain the shadow of a plane flying directly over the crash site in that video. Interesting.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

This ended up being down for 9 weeks. I'm staying in the club and looking forward to flying the plane when I get my PPL, but I've joined the local flight school to finish this up. I only flew 17 hours between June 1 and November 1.

    Thank You for Your Service

When I'm thanked for my service, I usually reply, "Thanks, but I got more out of it than I put into it." It puts both of us at ease. They don't need to know that I put a lot of pain, suffering, and loss into that service and was fortunate enough for it to have changed my life in a way that is...

    Planes and hurricanes

Our closed runway here at KLBE is now an impromptu ramp for 15 Gulfstream private jets that have come up here from GA/FL.

Best way to create and use custom checklists (electronic vs paper)?

I have Garmin Pilot on my tablet and phone. I can run the checklist on the phone, which is helpful because it also has a built-in flashlight.

For Sale: Aircraft For Sale - 1976 Piper Archer II in San Diego

Just to add a datapoint as a 'buyer' I only look at Controller.com. Something about Barnstormers just doesn't hold my interest. I'm not 'buying' for at least a year though so I'd probably cast a wider net when I have cash in hand.

    Airline pilots in missouri

I don't know how up-to-date it is but ATP has a Domicile Map. It looks like Cape Air and Plane Sense are in Missouri. Use it as a springboard to do more research: https://secure.atpflightschool.com/become-a-pilot/pilot-jobs/airline-domiciles That site helped me realize that if I ever wanted to...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Had a nice lesson on Sunday and let my uncle come along to sightsee. Very cool. My other two lessons were cancelled due to low ceilings.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Yeah, it's a flying club. We have a max of two students at a time. All the CFIs who are members are retired airline pilots or military who treat it more like a social club. Our by-laws allow any member to take the plane overnight up to 12 days. I've been unlucky this summer with availability...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I'm in a club. My instructor was unavailable for a week. As soon as he got back somebody checked the plane out for 8 days. So no lesson from July 1 to July 21st. During that time it's been hot and dry, western PA is entering a drought. Looking at the weather, from the 22nd to the end of the...
