What would you do? Question about following towers instructions.

I would respond with: Entering right upwind. Please clarify, do you want me to cross midfield? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

RNAV approach question And my buddy does a good

There is a picture somewhere in the IFR study material where the FAA advocates the dive. Basically if there's a chance of dropping below the clouds on the dive and acquiring the airport, there's a greater chance for a successful landing. That being said, I prefer to follow the advisory...

do you sign student pilot license?

DPE wouldn't let me take my IFR checkride until I signed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Advice wanted for summer trip to Montauk and Niagara Falls

We did this trip a few years ago. It's second only to the Key West trip. Sandusky to Niagara Falls at 1500 feet along the edge of the water. ATC crossed right over Buffalo. They talked us all the way to the falls and kept us away from the restricted area. Great views. Lots of fun. Make room in...

Anyone have a Pirep on PIC accelerated IFR?

I read this thread as I was deciding about a finish up course. I chose PIC and unfortunately it was not the best. The instructor drove in from WV. I paid for his hotel. We were to work 5 days, only worked 3. Total flight time in those 3 days was 7 hours. No sim time. I found out that many...

    Positive ATC Stories

Great stories! I've had one marginal experience and a multitude of great experiences. Like the time when I was a student pilot and was so nervous talking to ATC that I though I would **** myself every time. Then a new controller came on and managed to mangle just about every single word. I...

    Fatty liver question

Yes. The statistics are real. Fatty liver disease is the most common liver disease in the US. What is scary is that NAFLD can progress to Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) which is now the 4th most common cause of Liver transplant with predictions that it will become the most common cause in...

    GA Relief Efforts

With Hurricane Matthew bearing down on South Florida, I'm wondering where to find information on how I can help with my Cherokee 6. I wouldn't mind flying supplies or providing transportation to those affected. Can even consider trips to the Bahamas and Haiti. Anyone have access to resources...

Asthma diagnosed since last 3rd class exam.

Qvar is an inhaled steroid, not an oral steroid. That should help answer one of your questions. I'm not an AME so I can't tell you how your diagnosis will impact your medical. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Western US routes.

This has been a phenomenal response. The wife and I are just now starting to map and understand some of these routes. I have no doubt that we will find something that works for us. Thank you to everyone that responded. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Western US routes.

I've got the Cheyenne to Laramie, V4 to V6 route flight planned. Interesting route. Was hoping someone would have a southern route they could share. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Western US routes.

I hope this is the correct place to post this. I'm planning a flight from KBHM (Birmingham, AL) to KSLC (Salt Lake City. This will be in a fixed gear PA 32. Oxygen available. IFR if needed. Anyone have good or interesting routes through the mountains? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Quick ways to calculate crosswind component when flying?

Wow! I have an iPad app for this calculation. I use it every time. However, I go one step further and write down the result and visualize the wind and determine if I will have a headwind or tailwind on base. I think that is a much more important piece of information. Sent from my iPad using...

    Legal Billing Question/Dispute

Sounds like you need a new firm. Some companies get too big for the little guys. I found this with accountants. A big accounting firm was just overbearing in what they wanted to charge and completely incongruent with what services they wanted to provide. A move to another firm brought smaller...

    Question for ATC..

Well... This thread scares me a bit. If you're on a STAR or any approach and you deviate, are you not outside of protected space. The example of descending from 10,000 to 3,000 feet was given and the poster indicates that he should still be cleared to descend. What if there's a 9000 foot...

    Legal Billing Question/Dispute

You are paying for time (research time) not for answers. That being said, I'd open a dialog with the firm and see how they want to proceed. You may find there are shades to the answer that affect how it's interpreted. Or you might find that they blew it and understand how you feel about paying...

    Say Request on IFR Handoff

The day I knew I'd make it as a pilot was when a new controller messed up and I realized they were human, too. The standard clearance at our Class Charlie is to maintain runway heading at or below 3000. As a student, I would read back maintain runway heading below 3000. A very nice controller...

    Short Approach

I would never turn midfield and land on the second half of the runway. I don't think FAA or any controller would expect you to. They will expect you to make a safe landing. Cutting the corner and diving for the field for the sake of approaching traffic is not a good setup for a safe landing...
