For Sale Anyone looking for a GOAT?

LOL! We used to build ship models with firecrackers BUILT into them for the express purpose of blowing them up on the pond. At first we put too many in them, so they'd just disappear upon explosion. So we used model glue, which caught fire, and less fireworks to simulate a slower demise. :D

Avionics costs (including installation) for certified aircraft are, in general, OUT OF CONTROL.

So does everyone B.S. their bill of sale?

In some states, they ignore the sale price on the contract, and charge you the tax on what THEY think the airplane should be valued. On the planes I have sold, I have always used the actual sale price, and on one instance the state Dept of Revenue called me, and accused me of understating the...

How many single engine airplanes can carry 4 people? Under 100K

I did it in the Tiger. 962 lb useful load, so 162 remaining for fuel at 10 GPH, and 130 - 135 KTAS. No luggage though, or I'd have to dump even more fuel.

Oh, that is how pilots land gear up!

That is often the problem. When your normal sequence is disrupted you can forget things. That is why my instructor always taught me to check the gear, and say "Three in the green over the fence". It forces you to double (triple) check on your final approach.

I can see why some potential students give up flying.

1994. I didn't realize how fortunate I was at the time, but the flight school was well run, and I was my instructor's first student. His goal was to build hours, and ratings, and go corporate pilot, not airlines. So I caught him early, and knocked it out pretty quickly, and thus was able to...

I can see why some potential students give up flying.

I remember a lot of students dropping out in the ground school class I was in. I loved every minute of it, but others not so much. There were a few guys with Harleys in the class, and they went back to just riding their bikes as they didn't want the brain damage of all the prep to fly. Part...

[NA] Job opp. weird situation [NA]

^^^^^This is very important. Crappy cultures usually have crappy management. Bad bosses can make your life MISERABLE.

    Should I move?

Yes, check the fuel prices like Ted said, and if it is anywhere near what you are paying now, MOVE. Also, I would ask about the maintenance shop, and talk to people that use them. Having a shop on the field is great, but not if it is one you won't use for whatever reason.

    4 place experimentals

Yes, if the canopy is at the little ------> indicator line. If the canopy is too far back it will go all the way back in flight if you don't catch it. Not a good place to be.

That's pretty much it, but I like them in Jeeps too. I don't know if I'd like my Jeep without shifting.

    Motorcycle Radio

Ha! Yeah. It is interesting how things change. I was recently "made fun of" by a friend because I drive a stick shift. The insinuation was that it was old fashioned. From what I see younger people largely do not know how to drive a manual transmission, and many auto makers either don't...

A good plane. Bad broker. My first experience trying to buy a plane.

I don't think a $75K offer on an $85K asking price is a "lowball offer", and I don't understand why people get upset even if it was a lowball offer. It is called negotiating. As the OP said, the offer was "to get the ball rolling". When you make an offer two things can happen. You get a...

Good and bad of ATC Privatization

The tolls on the stretch of the PA Turnpike I drive have risen 100% in less than eight years. That is a 9% per year increase, with no end in sight! There is no public outcry, and the media doesn't report on it. They raise the tolls because they can!

I ask the same question. I don't have an answer. I know this is thread creep, so sorry, but the company was in bed with the NSA, so if you are in the industry you may know them. The NSA stuff was even scarier. :) I am glad that we as a culture value our soldier's, sailor's, airmen's, etc...
