    whoopsie

Flying with a purpose does add something to the experience. I have ignored beautiful weather days because I had no reason to fly other than to look at the ground...but I will gladly drive 25 minutes to the airport, pull out the plane, and fly my kid 15 minutes to spend the weekend with other...

    Plane Financing Criteria?

I financed my Arrow with US Aircraft Financing, and I have heard good things about Dorr. Aircraft financing isn’t as regulated as, say, mortgage financing, but the process is similar. The biggest factors are ability to repay the loan and assets. I would think that the credit score would be...

Intercepting ILS final approach course, do I have to descend right away?

Some do. Some have higher-powered antennas and are certified farther than 18nm. A lot of big airports with parallel or PRM type approaches have localizer service volumes of 25 miles or more.

    US has a passport problem

The FAA and most other federal agencies are under the executive branch of the federal government. The president appoints secretaries, administrators, etc...so the president has the power to do this. Congress, being the legislative branch, can certainly ask, but they can’t outright force which...

    Lycoming O-360 LOP or ROP?

I don’t know about that. I can’t get my Arrow’s CHTs above about 330 no matter how hard I try...25 LOP (60%) my hottest CHT is at 300 or less. I suspect he had bigger engines in mind, maybe....but a lean mixture and low CHTs has always been Mike Busch’s main objectives.

    Defund police helicopters.

Just a story....in 2007-2008 I was walking down Abbot-Kinney in Santa Monica around midnight heading to my car. A LAPD helicopter hovered overhead and shined their spotlight on me as I went down the sidewalk....I have no idea why they drew attention to me. I also got a jaywalking ticket ($123...

    Lycoming O-360 LOP or ROP?

Here is the article I believe is being referenced....I just opened up the latest AOPA issue this afternoon and saw it. I can’t get my Lycoming IO-360’s CHTs anywhere near 350F though.

    The long way around

The MADII arrival and the FYTTE arrivals meet up in that area. A common controller technique when there is a tie is to give the traffic on the MADII (your flight in this case) a slight right turn, then direct to a fix back on the arrival (usually SOOLU, which is what it look like). From there...

like a kick in the cojones

I have two go-arounds in my plane...they were on back-to-back flights on back-to-back days. One was for wind shear and one was ATC-Induced (well, they told me to follow someone and technically I did...just too close to give him room to get off the runway). I like to think as an air traffic...

Lost a plane by not offering asking price

Don’t beat yourself up. I was in love with an Archer, made an offer, and the prebuy discovered a bunch of engine corrosion. Seller did an overhaul and wanted me to pay half; I walked away. I found my Arrow shortly thereafter and am glad I don’t own an Archer :)

    Lycoming O-360 LOP or ROP?

The highest I can get my CHTs (IO-360) at 65% power is about 330 in level flight. If I’m leaned to 25 LOP my hottest cylinder hardly goes above 300.

Cherokee Owners... You can breath again... but keep your distance :)

I did too (well, Warriors instead of Skyhawks)...but out of dozens of commercial pilot students each semester, 50% by definition are below average pilots. They are going to get beat up over the course of thousands of landings.

PA 28-235 Down in Illinois, 4 Dead, 5/31/2020

Just more wild speculation...https://app.ntsb.gov/pdfgenerator/ReportGeneratorFile.ashx?EventID=20071102X01708&AKey=1&RType=Final&IType=FA A Seminole on a cross country had a mid-air with a goose. The goose hit the stabilator and the airplane wound up with a somewhat similar flight path into...

Does ATC care how you enter a hold?

    No one meaning ATC.

Cherokee Owners... You can breath again... but keep your distance :)

It’s not so much that they can’t make smooth landings....these are pilots who have only flown Skyhawks and Warriors who now are trying to do power-off 180s to a 100’ long spot in a plane they have 10 hours in. When all you’ve flown are C172s, the Arrow is a big difference. I do 100% agree that...

Does ATC care how you enter a hold?

No one cares how you get into the hold. Someone in this thread said that if their GPS won’t direct their hold entry they won’t hold...that would require declaring an emergency and scrutiny from FAA if you’re unable (or unwilling) to comply with an ATC instruction...so be careful with that move...

Who to call for Flight Following?

Look at an approach plate for the airport in question. There is an overlying radar facility frequency on the plate. Those frequencies are *supposed* to always be monitored, even when sectors are combined. Combined tower/approach facilities generally will put in flight following to your...

    Siruisxm radio

I have a Bluetooth XM receiver and Bluetooth audio panel. I just take it out of my car and put it into my plane for longer flights. It is powered by the cigarette lighter in the plane.

Poll...Should Radios Be Required At Non-Towered Airports?

Did you not read what I said? The other aircraft was on so tight of a base leg that he was behind the 310.
