    Realistic zero to CFI cost/time

More than 20 years ago I spent $100k and I started with a PPL. $30k/260 hours is $115/hr. I'm sure there are places in the country where you could still oil that off, but it's it's not where I live.

    How old is to old

I'm about to turn 59 and I fly part 135 in Alaska. Quit a 15 year engineering job at Boeing to do it. Happier than a pig in s***. No regrets. A slow death in a cube farm can't hold a candle to doing a very physical job, being outside and doing something that matters to people.

    Marriage Counseling/Therapy

Well then, don't waste anyone's time with counseling. Divorce doesn't cost half of what you own, it costs everything. And I'll second what was just said above. Do not trash talk your ex to your kids. Take the high road, as painful as that will be at times. Let her do the trashing. Kids will...

    Who is Doing These Jobs?

We have a couple of former multi engine survey pilots working for us. It's very precise flying for long periods of time, and not something your typical 251 hour pilot with a fresh ME can do. In the case I'm referring to the job also pays a pretty healthy per diem because you sit around a lot...

Installing an Amatuer Radio in a certificated aircraft

I fly in Alaska and most of our planes have marine VHF radios. Wired into the audio panel like they bring there.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Dana has them right. I had forgotten a couple of those. I didn't get to shop for the bike, my Lemon Peeler was a hand me down from my brother. It was a cool bike to look at but it was really a tank. Drum brake on the front, springer front end, small front wheel, and the "banana seat" had...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

That's the very first plane in my logbook N6585L. Many years later it was owned by one of my former students, but it languished in its tie down spot for even more years. Someone bought it at auction and attempted to ferry it with no maintenance. Didn't even clean the moss off it.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Small technically. It was a Lemon Peeler, not crate. I owned one.

How not to **** off your CFI

Based on the OP's original post he/she either no showed or cancelled at the last minute, probably more than once. To a student, flying is cool but it's an extracurricular activity, and when conflict occurs they suddenly can't make their appointment. To the instructor is their livelihood. They...

Glide Distance to meet 135 Requirements over open water.

120, wow. Well we have more than 10% of them on our ramp, ten of them flying 20k hours per year. Including our competitors we most have over half of them operating out of PABE. No way in hell the sled glides at 8.4. 1/4 mile out on down wind, pull the power abeam the numbers. With 15" MP you...
