I've always wondered about that. What happens when you have an alternator failure in IMC? Your iPad can used for navigation, but you quickly lose communication (ask me how I know) and if your attitude information is electronic you lose that too.

The device makes it unnecessary to adjust any of the other feet. It's sufficient to have the wedge be capable to move the height of its own leg go above or below the plane for the other three legs. In rare situations if that range is exceeded, you might need to adjust one of the other glides...

Another way to look at the numbers is "midair collisions in cruise phase of flight". I recall that number to be low compared to phases that involve climbing or descending, but I don't have the figures.

See and avoid, of course, is more effective the closer the two aircraft get. I wonder how many "near miss" encounters were actually resolved by see and avoid just in time . . .
