A brush with the TSA today...

To all the idiots picking fights for no real reason with TSA agents... Two things. 1. They're just people. Sometimes they make mistakes. No need to be an ass about it just explain yourself briefly. 2. They're stopping attacks and are less effective while you're wasting their time with your...

Actual IFR usage for GA flying

You can always cancel IFR if it is VMC and you get messed around by ATC. I'm in the group of always filing IFR if I'm going a long distance. That way it is available if I need it.If I don't because it is VMC and I have been giving a screwy route, I can always cancel IFR.

How do you fund your flying "hobby"?

I waited until I had the money to buy a plane outright, and only after all my debts including cars and my house was also paid off. Then and only then did I allow myself to buy a plane. I wanted to buy a plane for a long time and used that carrot to motivate me to start a business and work long...

What is the real total cost of airplane ownership? Part I

:D The second rule is DON'T share that total cost with your spouse if you break the first rule.

    Auto Pilot and IFR

He probably almost never flies IFR XC. Here is a fun little game to play with someone who is macho and claims they fly long distances IFR without an AP: Find their tail number and look up their flights. ;) :D Usually you find maybe one or two over the last three years.

What is the real total cost of airplane ownership? Part I

Pick a plane in your list, say a 172, and go through the whole process of pricing it out to see whether your budget works. For the record I don't think it will but your should go through the process. Choose a 172 that is for sale and pretend you're buying it. Ping a few places to see what kind...

Umbrella Liability policy that includes aviation-related incidents?

I've tried unsuccessfully to get an umbrella policy to cover aviation. My financial advisors are desperately trying to get me to give up this hobby (not going to happen).

Going to be flying in to Juneau for the weekend. Any PIREPs?

My plan is to come in IFR but I'm hoping for decent weather because if it is possible I would much prefer to do the last portion at least VFR and have some freedom to do some sightseeing from the air. I'm flexible on which weekend I go so will wait for the right time. I see that the only...

Going to be flying in to Juneau for the weekend. Any PIREPs?

I've never been to Alaska and so decided why not fly there for a long weekend. My plan is to fly in to Juneau and spend the weekend there. It is intriguing that the only way in to Juneau is by air or sea: No way to drive there! Sounds like a perfect place to visit by plane. Any suggestions on...

    Baron 58 vs Cessna 310R 5-6 Adults?

Putting six adults into either a baron or a cessna 310 would qualify for "cruel and unusual punishment". Both are four person planes with luggage.

Apparently an ultrasonic engineer is only half an engineer.

    Cockpit resource management (a satire)

Wait, is that installment going to be with the missus or without her and just the two of you? Great video enjoyed it :D

And perhaps YOU should look up those definitions before lecturing me with some bad marketing examples! Also work on (along with others here) adding "in my opinion" to some of the bilge you spew, or alternatively (GASP) provide references to back up some of your statements. In my opinion. ;)

    Pilot hacks

Always file a flight plan. Otherwise if you crash they say nasty things about you on the news.

How can anyone complain about a beautiful lady with a famous name doing something that can only help GA by being a positive story in the news rather than another story about how deadly small planes are? Jealousy perhaps? :rolleyes2:

Is it okay to take a quick nap while flying long distances?

Reminds me when I went for a ride in the B-17 last year at Oshkosh. There were 6-8 of us who went up and we all roamed around the B-17 during the flight to experience all the stations. Four of the passengers were really huge so they didn't try to go squeeze through to that front area below and...

Is it okay to take a quick nap while flying long distances?

Nobody will admit it here, but yes probably they do briefly close their eyes. Rest their eyelids so to speak. I couldn't do those long flight times.
