The world's newest Instrument rated pilot...

I will definitely stick to it. I shot a GPS approach yesterday with a safety pilot, you know, with no one nagging you in your ear how you're screwing up, and did quite well so that alleviated some unease. I should also get more actual time, this evening.

Congrats!! Twelve or so hours into mine. Both dreading and eagerly waiting for checkride day.

    Oshkosh - 2019

It seems to me they need to prioritize clearing the skies over airshow ops on certain days. Having a fustercluck of planes circling a lake with varying amounts of fuel and patience along with deteriorating weather conditions is a recipe for absolute disaster for both the people involved and the...

    RPM/MP & turbos

Thinner air will eat up less horsepower through drag and other parasitic forces so the engine will naturally spin faster for a given amount of horsepower. A plane with a constant speed prop will adjust itself to maintain RPM. This means that it will have to increase the pitch more than it...

    Landings-to-PIC hours ratio

I'm at about 2.9 landings per hour, as of today. When I passed my PPL checkride it was just over 4.4

Review: Light speed Zulu 3 vs Quiet Technologies Halo

I only recently got an ANR headset because I happen to get a seriously smoking deal on an A20. Love them, especially in planes with lots of low-frequency noise. Funny thing, I forgot to turn them on during my last two IFR lessons. I plan to hit up pigpen sometime soon for a set of Sierras.

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

I had 14.3 logged AFTER my first solo flight which included some dual and three solo T/O's and landings. While most people will be anxious to reach that point, it is really just another step. There is plenty to do and learn. the only real difference is that it gets about 30% or so cheaper...

Cessna 414 down in Yorba Linda

It is apparent from his previous license suspensions that he has a history of not obtaining IFR clearances.

Got my first IMC cross country with my instructor today!

5606 won't do anything to typical safety glasses. Skydrol, on the other hand will eat them alive depending on the material. This gives me a good idea I'll have to try tomorrow.

    Night VFR Poll

I absolutely love flying at night. Smooth, little traffic, and just plain neato. First night flight since 2002 was last night but it was a instrument lesson and couldn't look at s*** until 10-20 seconds before touchdown. Just two more landings and I'm current. I really want to go up during...

What a way to start training

FBO had to jump the plane I was flying the last two times. They're still trying to troubleshoot the problem. Something tells me the battery is toast and won't take a charge.

Got my first IMC cross country with my instructor today!

I masked and painted a pair of safety glasses for my instrument training. Realized on the first lesson that I could still see out the side windows in my peripheral vision. I didn't think it would effect much but when we got off shore with only water visible to the sides it was much more...

    Getting nervous about IFR checkride

Isn't a procedure turn just a course reversal? If you were coming from the south there would no need to do that.

What a way to start training

I had to get a jump for my first IFR lesson. Mechanicals happen and lessons will be cancelled here and there.

Got my first IMC cross country with my instructor today!

That sounds like a blast! I had my first instrument lesson last Friday. Told the instructor to throw the book at me with things to do. We started off just straight and level, climbing turns/decents, tracking radials, then compass turns, then partial panel. I then did my first instrument...
