Cirrus SR-22 crashed into house, Upland CA. KCCB Airport.

It's not just that the low wing stalls first. As illustrated earlier, in a skidding turn the outside wing tends to lift so the pilot will have a tendency to cross control in order to prevent that from happening. With the down aileron on the slower inside wing, it will have a tendency to stall...

    Ice Ice Baby

The pilot needs to chip off some of that into a glass and top it off with some nice Scotch.....a whole bunch of it. Wow!!

    Life without IT professionals...Funny!

The current IT guys at my work are super cool and help out as best they can. They also never throw attitude. A former tech did throw that smug attitude around and I made it a point to bug him even more. The big problem we had was IT management telling us in engineering that we were creating...

Don't be showing up way early for your flight Sunday

I like the time change. Now I can leave work, go straight to the airport for some night flying and still be home for a normal bedtime.

    Vision Jet autoland

Seriously, why couldn't they call it "Otto-land"? This is a travesty.

    Saw A Long EZ!

I've always wanted one but most all of the ones I see up for sale look pretty ghetto and poorly equipped for what I want.

    Daily Pic

The view on the RNAV Y approach into KCMA after an IFR flight back from up north. Wife was anxious to get back down as the area was bumpy and it was a long flight for her. Conversation went something like this: Wife: "OMG, I can't see s***! Can you even see the airport?" Me, looking up...

    Winery with runway in CA?

Temecula area is also gaining popularity. French Valley (F70) is supposed to be a good wine and fly location.

    Winery with runway in CA?

Santa Ynez (IZA) is a great little airport in a nice part of the state. Also, there is a hotel/casino just a half mile from the airport. There are also free shuttles into various areas from the casino or Uber to the wineries. My wife and I fly up there so she can do some tasting or pick up...

    First flight in actual IMC...

I couldn't wait to get into actual. First opportunity came when my instructor and I were up can rain can hauling a** in. We picked up a clearance and shot a couple of approaches. He told me to look up and when I did I took off my foggles like, "Don't need these!" Racked up just under five...

Not a good day to fly.

Good decision. I think pilots are one of the few groups in which, "Don't be a p***y," is not commonly said.

    Gettin real, now.

Here we go again with GPS interference testing...

You'd think they would have a specific set of auxiliary channels or frequencies that they could use to perform these tests. When I was in the Civil Air Patrol we did searches with a practice ELT that broadcasted on 121.6 to not disturb guard. Must be a government operation...

Piaggio Avanti on the ramp... would it have been rude to take a picture?

That Piaggio is a neat airplane. There used to be one flying around KCMA many years ago but haven't seen it recently. When taking pics, you don't really need permission unless you want to get fairly close like an inside shot or panel pic. From a moderate distance, snap away.

    Electronic or Manual

On my instrument checkride, I used Foreflight for the flight planning purposes but when he threw a couple misc changes and asked me to estimate some times and fuel I just whipped out the stock calculator on my phone. It's a good idea to understand the basics behind many of the calculations so...

Using descriptors instead of N number

I care more about where the plane is and what it intends to do than any descriptor or call sign. It's all about situational awareness.

Thoughts about buying my first plane

I'm in the early stages of contemplating my first airplane and I've come terms with spending at least five grand on any misc MX, repairs or just plain making it mine.

This is all assuming that some buddy is willing to risk his ticket and let you fly into IMC.
