Nice! Almost a letdown that it was all over in a couple of hours after all that prep, eh? Congratulations!

    Beech Crashes on Railroad tracks

When the DPE said I lost my engine on my PPL check ride I picked out a field that looked perfect but was out near the limit of gliding range. We glided over and did the usual checks and set up for a landing with the expected last minute engine recovery. Afterwards he said don't overlook a...

Guy at Atlantic Aviation at KAUS prohibited me from taking a photo of a jet

I've never run into that situation. If a photographer suddenly came along and started taking photos of me or my family paparazzi style I can see the creep factor that James sees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2A194yTWoQ

    Beech Crashes on Railroad tracks

Dang.... I wonder how many better landing sites he glided over on the way to that spot? (I went and looked at google earth and to answer my own question, maybe not many. :()

Passed my stage check. Nerves settling in for solo. Thoughts?

Interesting reading this.... I don't recall being nervous about the solo. What scared me were the first solo cross countries. Finding the airports without blundering into the wrong airspace, etc.... My point is we all have things that worry us, just fly! And follow up with a report here...

Would you fly this low over water?

It's like he's documenting all his poor approaches. I realize that we're all human and stuff happens but I wouldn't be so eager to post all my screwups on youtube.

    Checkride Incoming

Nice!!!!! I just added up the hours this AM and I've got less than 15 to go. For a while you're grinding along feeling like you'll never get there but it's nice when you're on the downhill side. I'm almost ready to pass the written. It'll be a relief to have that behind me, too.

Who's done IR and Commercial simultaneously

Wouldn't flying a twin make the commercial training much more expensive?

My wife called and nagged me because...

I gotta say that's not a very good ad. It depicts a poor outcome. I need some MAGIC that will prevent me from pushing the car. That looks more like a hex or curse.

NTSB: Fatalities Up 13% In 2014

This. The buck stops with the CFI on the BFR. I'm in the middle of IFR training and needed my first BFR. Even though I've been flying with the guy twice a week for the IFR he made me jump through almost all the private checkride hoops. Short field/Soft field landings/takeoffs, stalls...

My (ex) instructor called me and nagged me because..

Ultimately you are PIC. You planned the flight carefully and you executed your flight as planned. My only comment is that you seem defensive. Recognize that the defensiveness may come from some doubt in the back of your mind. Applying a cliche, your former CFI "struck a nerve" when he...

    Need Android tablet recommendation

I'm about halfway through my IFR training and it's probably time to think about what I'll be using in the future. I've been getting by so far with printing out paper versions of approach charts and putting them on my kneeboard. I could combine that with a low IFR enroute chart and do ok...

    Incident at Oshkosh

I'd be willing to bet that more people have died from not following a checklist than from taking their time going through a checklist but I agree with you, sitting on the runway is not the place to dilly dally.

    motion sickness issue

The other old saying about sea sickness I've always heard was, "first you're afraid you'll die... then, you're afraid you WON'T!" :D <-- notice I'm turning green as I watch the horizon and grin nervously. To the OP, others have hit the high points but I think seat time in the plane is the...
