Transponder on altitude reporting while on ground

I have a speed and (I think) squat switch sensor so my Trig TT-21 flips to gnd/Flt mode automatically. Yay.

    Determining ICAO equipment codes

Brilliant. Thank you so much. Thanks to your write-up on the FF blog and this thread I now have my ICAO aircraft profile complete. :happydance:

    Determining ICAO equipment codes

A quick trip over to the FAA makes is sound like PBN is going to be moot for most non-commercial operators. To receive PBN DPs and STARs you have to have an OPSPEC, MSPEC, or LOA. I don't and won't. So although the GTN 750 is good for RNAV 1 or whatever, I won't be able to put in the "R" for...

It says less than 10 events. No. That's not what I am saying. I'm saying that the categorical statement that "steam is twice as safe as glass" is horse****. Glass is more safe than steam as the data above shows. Why would the author choose to give more credence to the statistis with the...

Does this work? I had trouble posting that image. I ended up importing and using the image link. I would rather have just pasted it, which seems to work below?? Are we referring the the same article? I'm referring to the AvWeb piece by Jordan Miller. He did discuss some of the findings of...

    Determining ICAO equipment codes

How about PBN codes? What should I/we put there? FWIW, I have a GTN 750 navigator.

How high have you flown in a low HP plane.

20000/235 = 0.85 = meh Mine could go to 25k+ easily but it's not certified to go that high. The engine would probably melt anyway since my IAS would be like 105 to 110. It would be like being in a perma-climb.

Highest you've flown while still having connectivity to post selfies on FB?

I believe we've been able to text at FL200 on occasion when over an LTE city. Can't recall if my wife was able to send pics from that alt tho. We send pics from 12k with no trouble.

    Determining ICAO equipment codes

Thanks for that. So my understanding based on your reply is that "Enhanced Surveillance" is not the same thing as the "ES" as in "1090ES". The "ES" in "1090ES" means "extended squitter," which is denoted simply as "squitter" in the foreflight equipment list. Is that close to correct? :D

caveat emptor Sorry, the fatality rate data is horse manoeoeoeur and the author of that article (not the NTSB study - the Avweb sphincter piece) was off base to claim that steam is intrinsically "safer", much less twice as safe, as steam. There are very few fatalities overall such that the...

Worst FBO you have been to....

Basin Aviation? I did my training there in 1995 & 1996. They used to be decent - at least as far as I knew at the time. Sounds like it has gone down hill.

Opinions are like *******s. This article is about 98% sphincter and 2% fact. Three of the four factual sentences (the third is the one that states when FITS began) that I could find in this entire piece were: From that he derives a crap load of opinions, causes, and solutions. But in order...

    Airspeed is... WTF... alive?

Like I said, if there is any distraction, it's in the looking down at the ASI and not the verbalization. Shirley you looked at your ASI during your checkride. Lots of people verbalize things at certain points. It costs nothing in terms of attention out the window.

How high have you flown non pressurized plane

No, FL180 is only 18,000 if it's 29.92" Hg - true enough. But you said 18,000 ft doesn't exist in the US. But of course 18,000' exists. We may not call it that, but if it didn't exist then how could you get to 18,001'? Or 19,000 ft. You'd get sucked into a 1-foot spacetime discontinuity...

    Nicest FBO you've been to

This is probably the nicest I've actually used while traveling. HDTV, HD fuel, HD oxygen, HD parking, you name it. It's High Dollar. But the water is "free". :D The FBO at West Houston Airport (KIWS) is pretty good too. Signature, Tac Air, and Denver Jet Center at KAPA are very nice too...

    GTN for Dummies ?

To paraphrase Trump... that's yuge! But really it isn't that huge since I've never ever been issue a hold by ATC that I didn't request. I can see why they waited until SW version 6. But if I ever did get one, this would reduce workload by a bunch when combined with my ap. I wonder if it will...

    Lightspeed Zulu PFX LEMO question

This is why I went with the Bose A20 LEMOs for me and Zulu LEMOs only for copilot. If I fly a non-LEMO airplane I would like to still have ANR. Just put on the LEMO-to-twin-plug adapter and the A20s still have ANR. With the LEMO Zulus you get no ANR in that scenario. I think it's stupid...
