Time to Step Up to a Faster Plane?

I went from 200 hours in an aeronca champ and a Cessna 180 to a Mooney super 21. It all depends on the mission. Do you land on quite a few grass runways? If so, you must be very cautious with the Mooney as the prop is VERY close to the ground. It's not a good grass aircraft although I landed at...

This is why we can't have nice things.

Most American Airlines have their maintenance done in South American country's. This is more worrisome to me than the pilots from Norwegian air who have to have an extensive flying background according to richman air, the company that hires for n.a. It's called globalization with many American...

Aerodynamics of the Base to Final stall

I agree with 331. I've never used an aoa. I learned in an aeronca champ, flew it for 200 hours, then went to a 180 Cessna, lots of them around then, then to a super twenty one Mooney, which had a stall warning but usually only chirped on final.same with the 201, It went full horn just about...

    Body Found On Detroit Runway

You make a wrong turn in Baltimore and your a gonner, unless your driving say, a half track or humvee with a gunner. "You gotta know the territory. " Favorite trick currently is to bump into you at a stop light. You get out to converse. They then shoot or beat you up and steal your car...

    Fairings wheels

I've owned both a t craft and a champ...both trophy winners, that had fiberglass wheel pants . The t craft s pants were made by the restorer and both sets were perfect and sturdy. Worked great. Never questioned at annuals by any one. I'd put the ones described on a 172 in an instant.

Second plane exclusively for fun – straight tail 172 or Kitfox?

Second plane exclusively for fun – straight tail 172 or Kitfox?

A Stinson 108 with a 180 hp lycoming is a great airplane. If it's got a Franklin I'd pass. Nothing wrong with tube and fabric if it's been done correctly and always hangared. If I flew mainly alone , it would be a luscombe F model, 90 hp. In good condition. A 140 Cessna is a boring airplane and...

    Will General Aviation Survive

brine is correct. If you look up the number of light aircraft built in the U.S. Last year, easy to see why they are so expensive. Very few! Then look up jobs sent overseas in the past thirty years. Then look up wage stagnation in the past thirty years. Light plane aviation is no where near what...

    Favorite Beatles songs.

" your mother should know" beetles tunes to me were good music but the same lyrics over and over, ad nauseum.perry como, dean Martin, Sinatra, the Eagles ( for sure) Elvis from Hawaii, great, Dinah washington , the album is " unforgettable" Sarah Vaughn, on and on. More recently try video of...

Mid air collision reported at T31

A trophy taylorcraft I sold not too long ago was in a midair, in the pattern , at a small airport near buffalo in the 70s. No radios. The t craft made it to the ground, the cub crashed killing the pilot. The fellow I bought it from, the t craft, had been stored for years, rebuilt, recovered and...

Mid air collision reported at T31

Simply looking around doesn't cut it alone. It takes constant awareness of what's outside, looking and at the same time announcing your location, entering the pattern, downwind, base and final. I never stated that the radio alone was enough. At one smaller airport I fly into, if you don't have a...

Mid air collision reported at T31

Anyone who would instruct in a cub on a daily basis without a working radio is an idiot. Not to mention that they should be instructing in the proper use of the radio during this time. I've rarely heard pilots misuse the regular Unicoms and when it happened ,it was obviously someone with low...

Mid air collision reported at T31

I've owned five aircraft without electrical systems since I went light sport from ppl in 2000. Hand held radios are very good today and were in 2000. They have excellent range and easy to use especially if one hooks them up to an external antenna. There is no excuse for any aircraft, glider...

    Plane Missing Over Lake Erie

The pilot.....how many hours? Hours in type? Hours on instruments? Hours flying in bad weather, blowing snow, high winds? We shall see. Vertigo seems a possibility.

    Scotty was a pilot?

Try Jerry billings. Also a Canadian who flew spitfires in ww2. Later he flew cliff robertsons P51 for many years, which he kept most of the time on a grass strip at his home where he also kept an aeronca champ. Superb pilot and a real spitfire driver.

Any advice for a pilot who wants to kick the cigs?

At that time tobacco company's sent salesmen into our Air Force barracks to give out packs of Pell Mells free! Most took them as most smoked. It got me really into them. A different time for sure.
