A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

Ugly Baby BBQ finished 38 out of 65, but they are #1 in our hearts. This contest had the normal 4-meats, but also had 3 ancillary categories: pasta, turkey, and desert. Because not many teams did pasta, I didn't get selected to judge it, so I just watched to see what got turned in. Lots of...

The most epic thing you've ever seen?

Dunno. Next time I see Penny Benjamin I'll ask.

This is about the most pointless NOTAM I've seen

There, see? Just the way a REAL man would do it!

This is about the most pointless NOTAM I've seen

Back in the olden days the townspeople would park their cars along the runway and use their headlights and bonfires. No NOTAMs back then, no sir. Times were hard, but so were the people.

Tri tip, pico de gallo made with home grown tomatoes, and corn on the cob. Life is good.

    Domestic Cat in GA plane

I remember my primary CFI had a Rhodesian Ridgeback that would ride along on XC flights when she couldn't get a dog sitter. He was really good abut flying in the Warrior, and it gave students a lot of extra practice in calculating W&B. Those dogs are very dense, solid muscle and heavier than...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

I forgot about this: This is actually a thing. Baseball teams put on a "bark in the park" night where you can bring your dog to the game. Sometimes they play a doorbell sound over the PA to get the dogs started.

Any good websites for student rotary wing pilots?

My instrument CFI suggested https://www.boldmethod.com/ as a decent source of training info and scenarios. Are there any good sites with info for a beginner helicopter student?

    TAF was a little off

I was trying to remember my instrument xc. All the TAFs where I was flight planning were good, even the enroute. I can’t remember the exact circumstances, but the forecast discussion mentioned the potential for wide area pop-up TS. Not enough certainty of when or where to put it in a TAF, but...

Buy Me Some Peanuts And Cracker Jacks

I guess I never looked at buying a hotdog as incurring a debt. I figured it was a trade: I hand over cash to someone with a hotdog and a hotdog gets handed over to me. Using a card, phone, or smartwatch could be a debt if it’s tied to a credit card instead of a debit card. But then my debt is...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

A friend of mine set his phone ringtone to sound like a bottle cap falling on the floor. Every time his phone would ring his dog would race into the kitchen and start looking around.

    TAF was a little off

I check the discussions, too. There are times where the forecasters have a feeling something is going to happen but they just don’t have enough hard data to justify putting it into the TAF. I modified my instrument XC route when I read a discussion like that. I can’t remember the exact...

Buy Me Some Peanuts And Cracker Jacks

Because it’s right there and doesn’t require digging out a card. Especially in the winter around here: pull into the gas station, grab the phone off the wireless charging pad, start to tap the phone, realize it won’t unlock with gloves on (no facial deal on mine), take off glove, unlock phone...

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

Top round roast. Garlic pepper or some other black pepper based rub. Smoke it until med rare, about 130-135. I can’t remember how long it took, but I’m pretty sure it was less than 2 hrs. Let it cool as much as you want. Then slice it thin for some outstanding roast beef sandwiches. The...

Looking at your brisket and then looking at what usually gets turned in at a contest and it’s easy to see why contest cooking is different. I often see entries that are even more dark brown than this. Much closer to a roast beef color.
