Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

DPEs are also more forgiving if you mess up on a maneuver. They understand you are nervous and that perfection is not a standard.

Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

Just to update you, and hopefully someone makes use of this as well, I ended up taking the check ride in Allentown with the new examiner (don't want to publicly post any names. Overall he was a very fair examiner. Whatever rumors I heard about what to expect were all nonsense. I was worried and...

STEC 30 - silence the altitude alerts

The altitude will increase and decrease by 10-20-30 feet depending on turbulence, etc. I completely ignore the alarm and I do not trim up/down and the altitude still holds its place So I prefer to silence the annoying alarm and just be notified by the annunciator lights of the autopilot itself

STEC 30 - silence the altitude alerts

Hi, Is it possible to silence the "trim up" and "trim down" alerts for the pitch hold functionality of the STEC 30? The noise is very annoying Thanks!

Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

Thanks I appreciate it. My check ride is scheduled for Tuesday so if you can get the info by then, I will be very thankful. The CFI who failed from this examiner told me that this was the examiner's first check ride that he had given, also in May. I understand if he wants to be unreasonable...

Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

The examiner I am doing the test with is the "new guy". Better for me to just wait until September for the local DPE to be available?

    Foreflight use on checkrides

DPEs never had an issue with my check rides and fore flight with the GPS feature However, on my commercial check ride 2 weeks ago, we were waiting for takeoff and it was so hot that my iPad overheated Whipped out my backup iPad from the back seat. Should've seen the DPE's look on his face...

How to practice talking to the tower?

After run up, as I pull out from the run up area and taxi towards the runway, I change over to tower frequency and monitor it. Once I am number 1 for departure, and the previous aircraft already took off safely, I will call tower, "Orlando tower, Cherokee N66BB, holding short runway 14 (at...

How to practice talking to the tower?

Very simple, the 5 W's Who are you calling? (Orlando Tower) Who are you? (Cherokee N66BB) Where are you? (Quebec Ramp) What do you have? (Information Tango) What do you want? (Ready to taxi, departure to the southeast) Put it all together: Orlando tower, Cherokee N66BB at the Quebec ramp with...

How to practice talking to the tower?

The way I practiced was by pulling up JFK on liveatc.net and repeating everything that the controller was telling the airplanes Then they eventually added my local airport KFRG to the website so I begun to listen to tower and it made me even better, and also familiar with checkpoints and what...

Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

I am taking my CFI initial (airplane) in Allentown in two weeks. Wanted to know if anyone out there has some experience with them. I am based out of KFRG, and I had the option to either wait until September for the assigned DPE to perform the check ride vs go to Allentown and get something much...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

A good instructor will take you to another airport for pattern work if it gets too crazy. Also, being in the extremely busy environment turns you into a professional pilot when it comes to speaking with ATC. A lot of pilots, both new and experienced, who haven't trained in a busy environment...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

Thank you!! No particular reason for not going to CDW or Linden. My first ever flight was through a groupon I received as a present and it was based out of FRG. Also, when I first started, I only went on Sunday mornings, and it took only 45 min from my house. I work out of Manhattan and live in...

Options for Rentals in NYC Area

I work out of Manhattan and travel to FRG on a very regular basis for my training. 3x a week actually Getting there by car between 2-6pm is a disaster. Almost 2.5 hours in traffic door to door. I don't remember the last time it took under 2 hours. I wish I was exaggerating. What I started to...
