Skidding after touchdown in crosswind landings

Hey guys I fly a Piper Archer that feels "lighter" than a lot of the archers on the field - 1533 basic empty weight. With regular full flap landings, once touched down, I have to push the nose down for 1-2 seconds and/or retract the flaps to get some traction and gain steering control, and to...

    ADSB Rebate - "rule" airspace

I flew on top of class C for 30+ minutes. Everything came out fine. Tried to claim my rebate, and guess what? Because I have a registration pending - thanks to the FAA's sloooowwwww process, I am "not yet qualified" to receive the rebate. Haha, and I thought this was going to be easy. Everything...

Crossing runways to get self service fuel - do I need the ATIS?

I never listen to the ATIS when I taxi within the airport but after reading some of the comments, sounds like it might be a good idea just to listen to it and review any notams announced. Other than that, I doubt any controller is going to expect you to confirm you have the atis, because the...

    ADSB Rebate - "rule" airspace

Tight airspace Maneuvering above the airspace isn't the issue, but over KISP's class C - all the JFK arrivals come in at 6-8000 ft. Still perfectly doable though. I'll just fly in circles with flight following Sunday morning.

    ADSB Rebate - "rule" airspace

"It's complicated". Check out the KFRG airspace. Not a big deal, what I'll do is just maneuver above the class C airspace of KISP. Practice some lazy 8s or something like that.

    ADSB Rebate - "rule" airspace

Thanks. I am right near a class B and C. Class B controllers will not let me maneuver around for 30 min Class C - I should be able to get away with it. Do I have to be INSIDE the class B/C or does under/above it work?

    ADSB Rebate - "rule" airspace

I'm trying to qualify for the ADSB rebate. I flew almost 3 hours today with a flight plan and with flight following. The latest report I generated from the FAA only shows that I flew 27 minutes (out of the required 30) in "rule" airspace. Can someone clarify hat "rule" means? Do I have to now go...

    Do I need a BFR?

Your instrument certificate issue date is good enough to prove that you don't need a BFR

    61.129 requirements for commercial

You need to have been PIC for some of those flights. Make sure to read it carefully. All your instrument dual received will count, because you are considered PIC at that point. Some of your private dual received will not count, excuse you were not PIC.

    Clearance delivery at Class D?

Where I fly out of, it's only used for IFR ATIS will normally mention if you need to use Clearence delivery or not. Also check the US Chart Supplement (formerly known as the A/FD)

    Becoming a CFI

Do the CFII check ride right away once the CFI stuff is out of the way. Your brain is still in learning mode. Other than that - I definitely suggest you go up with another pilot and fly right seat. It takes some getting used to, especially when it comes to short/soft/regular landings. Steep...

    Becoming a CFI

I did my commercial and CFI training at the exact same time. I just had to wait for my commercial check ride in order to take my CFI ride. Got used to flying both left and right seat. Best thing I ever did, and saved me so much money Like others mentioned, take the CFII written while it's all...

Winter engine start options when electricity is not available

Thanks everyone for your input! A lot of great solutions that I will be analyzing. If I jump start the plane through my car, is that an option? From my understanding, the plane will start in cold weather, it's just the battery that takes a beating in the cold, therefore, there is not enough...

Winter engine start options when electricity is not available

Winter is right around the corner and I was wondering if there were any options to help pre heat the engine when electricity is not available at the tie down where I park the plane My plane does have a 100w/120v pre heater attached. I was thinking to have a solar setup. Put the solar panel...

    Processing IACRA manually by paper

I am about to go for my CFII but the problem is that the instructor signing me off just passed his CFII. I called the FAA to see how he can sign me off, they said it needs to be done manually by paper. The rep couldn't guide me any further on where to download the docs, etc Can anyone point me...

Adding bulk time entries in paper logbook

Guess it's not going to be worth it to enter them in bulk in that case Regarding CFI entries, there is an area for a CFI to sign on the touchscreen. My idea was to keep anything that needed to be signed on paper and do everything else electronically

Adding bulk time entries in paper logbook

Hey guys I want to officially transition to an electronic logbook instead of writing in my time twice Is there anything against putting in bulk time entries in my paper logbook when I decide to fill it in once in a blue moon? For example, "past 8 months - 130 landings, 150 hrs total time, 20...

Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

The inspector himself I also called the Albany FSDO to try to get an earlier date and I asked the same question. He also gave me the same response.

Allentown FSDO CFI Initial - anyone with experience?

On my commercial pilot check ride I was allowed to go around on the power off 180 because I wasn't going to make my point. With the FSDO I asked in advance if I was allowed to go around and he said "no you only have one shot at each maneuver" On my private pilot I messed up my entry on turns...
