The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

Re: The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnb Absolutely! Even though I failed to mention it, doesn't mean I failed to neglect it. Density altitude, weight, runway length, wind direction/speed, all affect the minimum safe turnback altitude...

The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

Re: The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnb You must have read my mind, as just hours ago I did this exercise from 500 AGL. I shot the video in full HD, so make sure to select 1080p and watch it full screen...

The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

Re: The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnb Oh wow, I didn't even realize that I'd brought in the power then. I'll have to watch it again to see. On Sunday, in the same plane and at the same airport (3600' runway), I'm going to do the exercise...

The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

Re: The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnb Oops sorry! That went right over my head! Apologies if I accidently stepped on anyones toes. ^This^ There was no way I was going to risk running off the end in a simulated emergency, but if this had...

The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

Re: The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnb I'll add too, that during my primary training, before my first solo even, that my CFI and I did this at least half a dozen times---from 500 AGL. One time I sat and watched him even do it in a 60 degree bank...

The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

Re: The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnb There was NO one anywhere near the traffic pattern that day. So just where would be the "right" place to experiment with this? Don't worry, I always wear this when I post here:goofy:

    College degrees and flying

^this^ With exceptions (of course) more often than not, the 4 year degree is a way for employers to thin the herd when making hiring decisions. As is the case in aviation, most could care less where you earned it, or in what field, as long as it is from an accredited institution. It DOES...

The impossible turn made possible---simulated engine failure from 600' with turnback

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNfgGw40Ils Flew solo over the weekend in a C172SP and mounted a Gopro on the ceiling, off to my right and just behind me, showing the panel and outside view. On departure, I pulled the power back at 600' and then waited 4 full seconds to simulate the "oh...

    GA for holiday travel

I'll echo what others have said on this thread, as well as another similar one on the Redboard, and that is 1) Have at least a 24-48 hr flex schedule and 2) Get your IR ASAP! This kind of reminds me of Thanksgiving of 2008 in that I'd had my IR for just 5 weeks, and was flying from Hartford...

    GA - Legal to Carry...

Very well said! There ought to be MASSIVE protests (as in several thousand people) standing outside that PD demanding that each of the 4 officers be charged with aggrivated assault and battery. Of course, since the suspect was white, there isn't nearly as much outrage as there would have...

    GA - Legal to Carry...

Forget the courts, and the legislative branches…... The BEST weapons that the average citizen has against these crazy laws is to 1) exercise their right to remain silent, 2) NOT consent to any searches of themselves or their property and 3) Have video rolling on their phones for the entire...

    GA - Legal to Carry...

What I am really wanting to know is, how many of these traffic stops that ultimately lead to cash, or other assets being seized, would have still happened IF the subject asserted his/her rights to the officer, right from the jump? -"I am not answering any questions officer, please take this as...

    GA - Legal to Carry...

EXACTLY what I am wondering myself:mad2::mad2: Anyone?? It should be JUST as hard for the government to seize you property as it is for them to convict you of a criminal offense. Period.

    GA - Legal to Carry...

To add to this discussion, I would STRONGLY suggest rolling the video on ones phone if any LEO starts to question you, about any matter beyond a simple traffic ticket. That way there will be NO dispute over what happened, should it get ugly. And NEVER EVER consent to any search or answer...

Dancing with clouds: HD video, stills and a write-up

In case anyone was wondering.................... I used this particular mount to attach the Gopro (Hero 3 Black+) to the wingstrut. http://i.imgur.com/KlrcEZv.jpg Furthermore, since it was early in the day with not a lot of light, I was able to avoid the "jello effect" and other...

Video: Cirrus SR22T IFR <200' OVC departure w/ 900' OVC approach at Class B KBWI

No problem! I just saw that you are a NEW private pilot, so knowing that, I am even less concerned about your intimidation of doing a long IFR XC in real world wx! You have plentyyyyy of time to build up to that! Heck………….there are a lot of days where I wish I could go back to when I...

Dancing with clouds: HD video, stills and a write-up

I know what you mean in VT where the terrain is a lot more mountainous than where I live. I'm sure there are a ton of microclimates up there where you can have it be 1000 OVC in one spot, and 0/0 just 5 miles away.
