Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

Sorry for my lack of upkeep with this thread, I was out of town for a bit. I do have an oscilloscope and I'm going to go conduct all of the rest of the tests in the next day or two and I will keep you posted Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

    Piper Cherokee shortfield question

I'm sorry it is the airplane flight manual. It's a piece of crap. Here's a pic. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

    Piper Cherokee shortfield question

It came with the original 1964 pilot operating handbook. The book sucks, is missing tons of information compared to today's standard of manuals, and doesn't even specify short/soft field procedures Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

    Piper Cherokee shortfield question

I own a 1964 Piper Cherokee 140. The only take off performance chart that is listed in the 1964 manual assumes 0 degrees flaps, brakes applied, and full throttle. There is nothing in the book to indicate flaps for a short field take off. The million dollar question for me is in the case of a...

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

I went flying tonight and unfortunately my radio was not captured by liveATC it all. I guess I'm going to have to go back to Worcester which is about 40 miles from here because the live ATC scanner is close to the airport. In other news I bought an Icom IC-A14, hooked it up to the external...

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

I don't know if it's of any relevance and its probably a longshot but the Collins AMR-350 audio panel has a local oscillator in the marker beacon receiver. If strong VHF audio was mixing with the local oscillator of the marker beacon receiver, couldn't that intermodulation cause...

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

I did not write them down but I can tell you that the little deviation that I did see here and there was les than 1khz which is not bad at all given the age of these radios. To answer your second question I don't know when it was calibrated. For what it's worth I bought and IC-A14 handheld and...

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

Correct, the only difference was the RPM. Ive put three separate radios in that slot and I've checked them all with an external frequency counter. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

The tower sounds weak because that was recorded off of a scanner that is far away from the airport and I was in the air so it could hear me better than the tower. None of my headsets have any kind of Mic gain and adjustment.

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

Here is a youtube video from worcester tower a few weeks ago. In the morning I will go flying and get some more since the audio archives don't go back far enough for me to find more :D http://youtu.be/C8tYhfce3RE

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

I was able to turn off all of the strobes, the lights, the fuel pump, and the transponder. I do not have a two-part master switch you cannot turn off the alternator. With everything that I can turned off the problem is still there. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

We repeated the test with the airplane running and the RPM's at 2000. Now the frequencies that I know are bad are broken and unreadable, the frequencies that I know are good are clear and random frequencies are also clear. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

I did do the second part of what you asked me to. The bottom line is that every frequency sounds okay between the airplane and the handheld. I did frequencies that I know are good, I did frequencies that I know are bad, & I did about 10 or 11 random frequencies. Every single one was loud and...

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

I configured the airplane the same as enroute. Master, radio master, strobes, transponder set to ALT.

Broken & Unreadable on Certain Frequencies

Okay Jim so we tried it on the ground with 2000 feet of separation with the airplane running and the airplane off and all of the frequencies sound fine. I then took off and tried to talk to Westfield tower and Bradley approach and Both said broken and unreadable yet Westover could hear me fine...

    Handheld Radio Inflight

Hello everybody, While Jim and I are trying to troubleshoot the problem with my comm radio, I decided to order an Icom IC-A14 hand held air band radio. Will this do the trick for getting into the local class D airports until my problems are resolved? Also, will I need to hook it to an external...
