There is some serious price delta between firms. I spoke with firm in my state yesterday and he said it’s $5k which includes the aircraft. He’s able to book me very soon. I call another and it’s $5k with my plane or $9.9 with theirs. Seems like most firms are really charging A LOT. I called...

Flying for company on a PPL

Straight from the horses mouth: https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/agc/practice_areas/regulations/interpretations/data/interps/2009/mangiamele%20-%20%282009%29%20legal%20interpretation.pdf I don’t agree with the ‘09 FAA general counsel interpretation but they leave some...

Hey maybe we can all write the FAA and one of us will get a famous decision with our last name! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Where to brokers find “cheap” planes?

I think you need to also think about the clientele who buy such toys. Some live dangerously and run into hard times and need cash NOW. Hmmm my Mooney I’m $65k into is worth low 50’s if I want to dick the dog for weeks waiting on contracts and inspections or Joe Blow Broker will get me $43k...

Flying for company on a PPL

Aren’t you all over analyzing 61.113(b)(2) a little too much? If said engineer and his co-workers, who are all the same employees on the incidental trip to the hypothetical meeting, were to say SELL the 5th and 6th seats to a couple of strangers for $299 each way then that clearly would violate...

    Email provider filing bankruptcy

I’ve paid for web hosting for the last 15 or so years. $9/mo. Unlimited storage and hosting services. Unlimited email addresses (I have at least 50). You can control the forwarding etc. Even if Dreamhost goes out of business I can switch over to another provider. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    406 ELT Pirep ?

ADS-B coverage isn’t that great in remote areas unless of course you crash onto a 5000’ cloud. But this is real life. Finding a wrecked plane in a forest is literally like finding a needle in a haystack. The premise is that you physically and mentally survive the upset and will be able to reach...

    Bold Method Quiz: Oxygen Requirements

Scored 33% and I typically fly with a oxygen conserving nasal cannula pendent above 10,000 day or 7,500 night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Skip formal ground school?

If you can afford the time for the ground school then I would do it. You’re provided the priceless opportunity to ask stupid questions. You can’t really do that when staring at a Gleim book or watching a Sporty’s video. Again, if you can afford the time to attend the classes. I couldn’t afford...

What Power Does the FAA Have?

4/5 don’t have insurance within Detroit city limits; explains why uninsured motorist coverage is so expensive. We subsidize the confederate drivers there. No enforcement from the local flatfoots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I Fainted from Standing Up Too Fast - Do I Need to Report It?

How come whenever someone brings up a questionable topic they are automatically labeled a troll? I do see that the OP’s account doesn’t exist anymore... Anyways, I’ve noticed that a lot here that if someone has a differing opinion or makes a comment that goes against the grain they are...

What Power Does the FAA Have?

A lot bigger fish to fry than some rogue UberAir operator. DoJ resources have been overwhelmed for decades. BUT if the media makes a deal out of it, then a US Rep’s office will receive complaints and/or want the press exposure, then they will put pressure on the DoJ to follow up and quash the...

What Power Does the FAA Have?

How much different are the unlicensed rogue land taxis? Picking up clients in unsafe vehicles and having an unlicensed driver... More people are exposed to that risk on a regular basis. Maybe the DoT should focus their efforts on that first? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What Power Does the FAA Have?

Some of you guys paint a picture of FAA enforcement being the stereotypical overweight, overstressed, divorced, and alcoholic detectives portrayed on cable television. Far from it. They have a job to do and respond to leads submitted by the public. Definitely not real boogeymen that don’t...

What Power Does the FAA Have?

Oh man! No search warrant is required to read “poison pen” crap that your friends submit to law enforcement. Also, it really isn’t that hard for a LEO to submit a request to Facebook to view the information. Search warrants aren’t that hard to get so long that they are just. Sent from my...

What Power Does the FAA Have?

FAA does have an enforcement branch; I know as I recently interviewed for a job there. If they want to affect an arrest they need to coordinate with the Assistant US Attorney’s office and local law enforcement (if they cannot secure assistance of the US Marshals). There are very VERY few armed...

I Fainted from Standing Up Too Fast - Do I Need to Report It?

Avoid hot showers while flying and you’ll be fine. Hypotension isn’t uncommon when you’re sick and dehydrated. You easily could have been both of those when the event happened. Are you generally hypotensive? I am and I’ve never had a problem getting a Class 1-3. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Most reliable vehicle you've owned vs least reliable

Being debt free and enjoying vehicle maintenance, I tend to drive older cars with high mileage. I’m a stickler for having a clean presentable vehicle and not a rusted out “warrant ride”. Most reliable vehicle owned: 1999 Ford F-150 (I’m still shocked as I’m a GM man). Current vehicle: 2009...

How did you get your hours after flight training?

Mascelli is correct. Unless you want to buy an absolute money pit, just join a flying club that has what you need. You do not want to do cross country’s in a C-150/152. Get into a nice 4 place IFR cruiser that can get you places safely and without being thrown around. Club memberships are as low...
