Dan Gruyder At it again TBM Warbird Beaching

What does Dan Gryden’s incident with the ordinance inspectors have to do with an obviously unsafe aviator group? He’s calling out the knuckleheads.

How often have you used a cell phone in the air?

No but that would be a nice feature; “real world conditions”. I’ve done that before to investigate the actual wx in areas where the field station is reporting nonsense. I just would hope that doesn’t cause someone to fly without backup options.

FaceTime works great at or below 4000 AGL

    Starlink Beta - Impressive

You might be able to find a LTE modem device that will inherently allow you to assign the IMEI.

Military plane down in Michigan (Upper Peninsula)

Latest update: the USFS has barred access to the crash site area until the Fall 2021. I’m assuming this is due to extensive cleanup. “Modified Emergency Closure Order Recovery efforts for the F-16 Fighter Jet recovery are paused for the winter. A modified closure remains in place. Remediation...

    Such luxury!

I flew Emirates and Qatar in biz too. As I paid for these flights out of my own pocket I feel that Oman was the best value. I never had a chance to visit the all-new Muscat airport which opened just after I left the region. Qatar is in a league of their own; quite over the top. The Doha lounge...

    Such luxury!

It’s hard to believe how those things would crash regularly. Some never to be found until decades later...or never. My dad travelled a lot for work back in the 60’s. He dearly misses being able to smoke on the big planes. It’s amazing how they would fly those massive DC-8’s from small city to...

Wow they maybe have recently caught on. I moved back into the city and now have Spectrum 150Mbps and life is good again.

    Starlink Beta - Impressive

AT&T unlimited LTE Data is $35/mo. I used to run two of them and pulled TB’s of data a month sometimes. 20-25Mbps. The trick is to register it as a tablet then pop the SIM in an LTE Modem or all in one router.

[NA] Question for law enforcement officers amongst us

Having sound evidence is always a bonus. Usually it’s your word against their word. Not much other to go by as volunteer witnesses seem to agree with both parties accounts. Having video immediately for review can save thousands of wasted dollars and several hours of time.

Man makes $300,000 using Credit Card rewards

AA partnered with a brokerage firm about ten years ago and offered a MONTHLY 100 “a** in seat miles” for every $1,000 invested with them. So my buddy wires over $1.4M. Yes - he earns not only 140,000 AA miles a month, he also accrues miles toward lifetime Million Miler status. It’s my...

Is there a non-boring IFR trainer?

I bought this used for $15 off of eBay and it is a good read. My IFR instructor insisted I get it. Wasn’t the 13th edition but is the same stuff sans minor updates.

Is there a non-boring IFR trainer?

Redbird FMX is legal to log time in (20hrs?) It’s full motion and can rent for as low as $30/hr.

    200 hours between overhauls?

Certainly can get more than 200 or 300 hours between overhauls. Gotta let these motors slowly warm up amongst other best practices.

    Pre-buy inspection. Is it reasonable?

Paul great question! No, I didn't disclose anything but my situation is quite unique. Severe carb ice on takeoff nearly stole my life after I had to put it down...hard... The aircraft, with an open repair estimate that began at $22,000, was purchased from the insurance company for only a few...

    Pre-buy inspection. Is it reasonable?

I bought a C-150 on eBay with 476 SMOH for around $10k. It was the third time he listed it on eBay due to non-payers. I showed up, did a cursory inspection, paid him cash, and flew it home. First annual was uneventful. I did get a title check and "blue ribbon" report from the FAA. In the words...

When are we getting rid of 100LL?

I’m curious what the market will allow 100LL to reach. Would you pay $15/gal? Meanwhile a large volcano spews out more impurities per minute into the atmosphere than the entire GA fleet probably emits in a decade. When I worked as a firefighter I would ponder how many pollutants are spewed...

    How Air Ambulances don't work

Paramedic/FF here. Worked volly fire for 17 years and ten years for one of the largest non profit EMS firms in the nation. I’ve seen first hand how certain types request a chopper at the sight of a horrific crash without even triaging the patient(s). It happens. I wish they’d put more physicians...

    How Air Ambulances don't work

The principal I never felt comfortable with is how a first responder bumblef*** can make the determination if a helicopter is “necessary” for a trauma patient. My work-partner and I have turned away the whirlybirds in the past and determined that the 20-min ride to the level 1 trauma center...
