    Transponder Cert Going to Expire

the altimeter certification part of the IFR inspection/certification of the aircraft and hence only required for IFR in controlled airspace? generally your modeC would report pressure altitude (or encoding if there is a separate input), ATC would offset the received altitude with the current...

    JPI EDM file converter?

yeah you can use that savvy thing and it works, but it only has to graph panes and therefore 4 total metrics to be displayed (only). the separation of EGT and CHT in the same graph is not easy to dissect (same colors) and i'd like more flexibility to test my LOP procedures so want to see more...

    JPI EDM file converter?

yeah it is kind of sad the non sharing piece... why does it need to be this complex. if we allow each other to build better sw there is always a chance of monetization like what savvy did with the pro/analysis portion. but the fact that it only has 2 graph panes and 2 metrics to display per pane...

ha htanks! :) anything besides that? :) I could fire up a virtual machine, but the hassle that that comes with, license etc, was looking for a csv so you can plot it however you like in excel.

    JPI EDM file converter?

hi folks, the edm900 (or any type really) are super handy to have. now the thing is I am running OSX and the EZtrends program is for windows only for post flight analysis. I used the savvy aviation tool as well that understands the jpi format, but its options are limited (maybe just in the free...

    Sales Tax on Purchase

yeah sometimes I take a second to get to the point haha :) even if the state of plane base has sales tax, this approach at least saves the hassle of dealing with 2 authorities and you'd only have to handle the case in your base state. dollar for dollar it doesnt save you anything in that case...

    Sales Tax on Purchase

buying: close the deal in a state that has a fly away rule. that means that even if the plane is based in state X that doesnt have fly away and imposes sales tax (eg GA), BUT you are closing the transaction in a state WITH a fly away rule (sales tax or not) (eg FL), you'd save the sales tax in...

    Sales Tax on Purchase

just to make sure, georgia does apply property taxes like a house or a car, and it is the *assessed value* times 40% times the mileage rate. that is, if the plane is based on a GA airport. to buy a plane, if the plane is not manufactured in GA, the fly away rule doesnt apply and you'd face 4%...

Airspeed reading zero, possible reasons/remedies besides clogged pitot

oh hey totally @TommyG ! it is easier to fix a car on the road than a plane in the sky! and totally agree on proper guidance, fortunately, I had him on facetime and text to verify/validate. so all good there. thanks for all the solid responses and considerations btw, this is really a great...

Airspeed reading zero, possible reasons/remedies besides clogged pitot

hi folks, wanted to share the root cause of the situation that i had...! in the end it was not a clogged pitot but a t-splitter in the cockpit for the pitot that shares the pressure between the ASI and the ASPEN apparently snapped... I discovered this as i took the approach suggested by some of...

    Sales Tax on Purchase

CA does have a fly away rule, but you need to fill out some paperwork. note that with all this sales tax stuff, the seller is responsible for collecting the tax and paying the local authorities. now lets say the seller doesnt collect, and something goes wrong, where is the dough coming from...

    Aircraft purchase questions

if i may pass on my experience from recently buying a plane (albeit not a c182, but functionally no difference). it is very easy to get mislead by the avionics and look at all the colorful displays and think the plane is in great shape therefore. now here is the kicker, i went to visit a plane...

Airspeed reading zero, possible reasons/remedies besides clogged pitot

I'd need to check, I never noticed the valves, but it seems they are a bit hidden besides the seat, so lemme check that also!

    Sales Tax on Purchase

I went through this few months ago! (albeit between different states) but let me share my experience and how to go about it. so, many states have a fly away rule. so while even the state has a sales tax, if you take the plane away within X number of days/period there is no sales tax implications...

Airspeed reading zero, possible reasons/remedies besides clogged pitot

oh sorry one more Q @455 Bravo Uniform, @Rgbeard and @Jeff767 : while it appears than to be common that grabbing a bug is common, would the debris stay within the pitot mast or would it still be "alive" and crawl up the tubes? was wondering here since the tubes are relatively large(r) compared...
