"Provisional" diagnosis of bipolar among other things.

Agree with above. Get help, get well, develop a life of good choices. Flying has been a very important part of my life, but there are basic things like health, relationships, earning a living, helping others that I am in position to help, that I would gladly give up flying for, and should. A...

    18-y/o solo pilot RTW in a C-172

I wonder who’s the real pilot? One can’t let a support team or “intermediary” people make “pilot decisions”. Part of being a pilot is to get information, prioritize, and act. Handling the controls is the easy part. Sounds like the pilot needs to step up and be the pilot.

Loss of sight in one eye

Sorry to hear the news, but your brain will adjust. Monovision, given time, should be no detriment to flying, driving or flying. Protect your good eye(eye protection and UV protection) and take care of your heart so it can take care of your good eye(blood pressure, exercise, weight loss, diet...

    Real TAS in a 180hp C-172

I prefer to call the 172 the most practical GA plane ever made with the 182 second. With the 180 hp, you make an already very practical plane more practical. Do I wish it had more speed, useful load, fuel efficient, cheaper to maintain? Yes, but the 180hp only adds to its value with little...

    Twin or Single

Love both. Owned Twin Comanche and Bonanza for 20 yrs each, both used for mainly trips. Maintenance was the same. Twin Comanche i felt was more relaxing flying at night, over water/mountains, required more proficiency. Bonanza more relaxing landing and taking off. Flying over 150 hrs a year...

    Aerostar Aerobatics

Jimmy’s dad(Zip) and another person crashed and died in this Aerostar back in 1991. They were taking off out of Ruidoso, NM. The family has had their share of tragedy. I also remember, I think, a wing walker falling off of Jimmy’s biplane in the 80’s. He was saved by a safety line, but then had...

Does Mike Busch have this one right?

Sounds about right to me as well especially when you count hangar, engine TBO, and loss of capital. If you fly under 150 hrs/yr, cheaper to rent.

    just have to make time...

Seems like in life, when I had the time, I didn’t have the money, and when I had the money, I didn’t have the time. Sometimes we have to set priorities.

    New here, medical question

Agree the PTSD is problematic, a lot of records and questions and treatments need to be explained even though it was just “given”.

B36 - those were the days

Many believe the B36/nuclear bomb was our only deterrent after WW2. We had demobilized as did the rest of our allies while Russia and China were still building their military. Europe’s and our only defense from 1947 till late 50’s was the “Peacemaker”/nuclear bomb threat. We had limited...

First in-flight emergency declared... mysterious problem !!! Long post

... to the base where. When I changed the oil, I was always aware to not let the torque I w was using to remove the filter, to be applied to the base of the adapter. Ask me how I know?

First in-flight emergency declared... mysterious problem !!! Long post

When one removes the oil filter, it’s very easy to apply “torque”

    Mooney M20M Bravo

I’ve owned beech, pipers, and Cessna’s, never a Mooney. Why? Never found a mechanic that liked to work on them. If I was close to a shop that specialized in Mooney maintenance, I would of had one. Visit where you will be having the maintenance and see what their opinion is. Unlike the big three...

    First Time Airplane Buyer....maybe

If you finance the plane, you need insurance.

    Insurance

My guess would depend whether you as the renter was the cause for the damage, or was it due to a mechanical problem with the aircraft(engine, brakes, tires). You are protected if you caused the problem, but they would not pay if the engine/aircraft was the cause. I’m guessing.

Bozeman to Spokane via Hwy 90 route questions

Fly this route yearly that time of year. Not sure about any unmarked strips, but their are many lakes along the route which I would consider rather than the busy, twisting I-90. That being said, i consider it safe, weather permitting.

Vans RV 4 vs. Cessna 150, which is more cramped?

I’ve always found “bench seats” where I can sit straight up and change positions on my hips and back are equally important as well as a seat back position I can adjust during flight. I had a RV6 for 10 yrs that I loved, but found trips of over 2 hrs were a “pain”, not because of the room, but...

    Is Forecast Discussion especially pessimistic?

I assume they are making forecasts based on percentages, ie half the time more optimistic, half the time more pessimistic. They should be using the odds and I should be realizing there may be an error either way, but I will error on the pessimistic side, especially if I see the weather is worse...
