    Amaurosis Fugax

Amarosis fugax is a symptom that has life threatening consequences(temporal arthritis, carotid artery atherosclerosis, cardiac emboli, even brain tumor, etc,) The last thing I would be worried about is my medical until a definitive diagnosis is made.

    MetLife denied my claim

Since you are over 60, I do think age becomes a factor in LTD, ie social security benefits.

    Amaurosis Fugax

Neurological defect, it is not a migraine but a vascular etiology. Needs a complete vascular workup for sure. Yes treated like a brain TIA.

    MetLife denied my claim

Would have to read the policy to determine what is considered a disability. I could buy a policy that would pay if unable to perform my job as a pilot(expensive) or one where I could not perform any job(cheaper).

Does Airport Manager get involved with incident?

No, no, no unless you want a bunch of angry local pilots.

Why are Cessna Skymasters not liked? Or are they?

Main thing is you take what you can get, positive or negative(up drafts, down drafts). In my twin Comanche, I might not have been able to fly over the highest mountain, but I could travel hundreds of miles to lower terrain SE. What bites you is when you try to get more performance out of the...

Piper Aerostar and rudder/vertical stab size?

Regarding the size of the vertical stab, I assume the blue line is quite high. As long as you don’t get slow it should fly fine. Also the engines are quite close to center line. Shape of the fuselage also might give some yaw stability.

Why are Cessna Skymasters not liked? Or are they?

Maintenance, landing gear, rear engine cooling, cont io360 not exactly bullet proof, not easy access to engine, unique systems. Should be taken to mechanic shop who specializes in them, not many.

Lycoming o320 vs. Rotax 915: cost to own

O 320 has been around along time with a good reputation. Most A and P’s are well versed in it. That counts for a lot.

For Sale Interesting strategy - Piper Cherokee 180 NOT MINE

He’s just putting in writing what I or a lot of sellers are thinking anyway. The longer the plane is listed, the softer the price. In two weeks I might offer him 50,000, take it leave it. Wouldn’t be surprised if he took it. I know he’s not firm on his price.

    Route suggestions, Boise to Dallas...

Follow main highways(plenty of emergency landing spots, people will see you if you go down, minimum altitudes, likely to be airports along the way), weather determines route, early takeoffs, be more conservative with headwinds, more aggressive if the ind is at your back(throttle back to...

How to move on from airplane crash

As a survival of 5 “fender benders”, two with only me to blame, 3 mechanical (2 of which just out of annual), I understand the feelings. As some have said, give it time for you to reflect on the accident, the cause, how much you enjoy flying, your family responsibilities, etc. Flying is...

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

That sounds really wise. Real cost of a plane is not buying, but maintenance, upkeep, gas, motels, rent cars, etc. Not enjoyable when one is under financed, then the plane sits and is useless.

a bit different "what plane should I buy" question

Agree with 172/177. The back seat not only has the room and ease of entry, but gives a much better forward view and downward view than a low wing. The Omni vision also makes the back seater less claustrophobic and less likely to get airsick. All my non pilot passengers have preferred a high wing...

Cessna 172H deal - Your thoughts?

I’d walk away from this “deal”, wait a few years, let the bubble bust, and buy the plane of my dreams. Maintaining an airplane is expensive enough, paying retail to restore an airplane seldom makes sense, especially with our economy.

I bought an airplane. It was a lifelong dream. 6 months later, I'm out. (Reddit post)

Most important decision in airplane ownership is finding the right mechanic who you respect and he respects you. There are very few left. I might not trust many people I deal with, but I have to trust my mechanic or find one I do trust or sell the plane.

Pilots leaving their plane full of passangers

Sometimes cockpit resource management isn’t pretty, but far from the worst outcome.

Interpreting aircraft quality from sales listings

Any aircraft that has not been flown 50/hrs a year over the last 3 years, a recent overhaul with less than 50 hrs, a recent change of owners where the new owner put less than a 100 hrs on plane since purchase. I like to buy from an owner who has flown the plane regularly, been maintained...
