Plane crashes into vehicles just short of KWHP (Los Angeles)

I don’t know about KWHP but I’m sure some groups will use this tragedy as a reason to get rid of their local airports. Don’t let a misfortune go to waste is their thinking.

Plane crashes into vehicles just short of KWHP (Los Angeles)

Thought the tower did an excellent job clearing him for the landing with little distraction or unnecessary questions. I’ve landed there once and agree there is little room for error, it certainly got my attention landing and taking off.

    Operating a turbo-charged engine like a turbo-normalized engine.

Trade offs. Agree with flying the plane as it was designed. That doesn’t mean one can’t back off the cruise power to 70%, or limit altitude to put less stress on the engine. I love Mooneys, but not the turbo IO360 in a tightly cowled engine. If I wanted the turbo charging and was going to fly in...

Cessna Centurion crashes on approach to Lubbock, TX | Icing Conditions

If you think you might have an emergency( plane, medical, otherwise), declare it. Don’t wait till you know you have an emergency. I remember flying along on a cross country, another general aviation pilot declared an low fuel emergency out in the middle of nowhere. He was below radar contact...

First time in the clouds and I gave up

Get back on the horse. The first 30 secs in actual is the worse, especially when ATC is barking instructions a mile a minute. Sounds like you suddenly got overwhelmed. I remember the first time I was in actual IFR, it wasn’t pretty. IFR requires one to be ahead of the plane, knowing what comes...

Airplane used in “Nightmare at 20,000 feet”

Not sure of the airplane type, but I still remember when I first saw this episode when I was a kid. I have never seen it since till now, but have thought of it many times. The effect TV had on a child back in the 50’s, both good and bad should never be underestimated. I’ve not seen any of the...

What therapy options exist while keeping a medical?

As a retired medical physician, some of the best advice I’ve ever had were from family members, friends that knew me well, clergy. Some of the worse advise I’ve heard were from licensed professionals. Sometimes it’s not a diagnosis she need, but changing paths and old habits.

    MedXpress Hospital Admission Question

If you were admitted into the hospital, must answer yes, regardless of why. If you were not admitted into the hospital but only spent time in the ER, then one can answer no. How long does not matter.

ANOTHER: “What the right plane for my mission“ thread

You had the perfect plane, a C172, for utility, instruction, holding its value, maintenance, etc. I doubt any plane would be better until your ready to spend the big $$$$$$.

    Cessna 336

Would have to have a good reason to own this twin instead of a C182. Twice the number of cylinders to maintain with little to show for it. Mountains or water or night flying might change my mind, but I’ve never been a fan of the Cont IO360.

    Price Adjustment

New engine, has flown very little probably last 10 years, new panel, dealing with a widow, dealing with a mechanic who has vested interest in plane(ie get your own mechanic to look it over). How much would the plane be worth if you fixed it up as you intend? How much will it cost you in time and...

Cessna Centurion crashes on approach to Lubbock, TX | Icing Conditions

Flying past Amarillo once, IFR, I heard a Southwest airline declare an an emergency while enroute, with engine problems. From that moment on, all the pilot had to do was fly the airplane. The controllers were providing vectors, frequencies, altitudes, I do believe the pilots hardly had to look...

    Appointment with a neurologist...

A shotgun of tests are not going to be your friend, but lead to a chasing of a bunch of rabbits. Go to the best experts you can find, not the ones in your PPO(think gate keeper). The fewer guesses and the more knowledge the neurologist has will be your friend. hopefully the doc will take a good...

General maintenance cost: 6cyl + CS prop vs 4cyl fixed pitch

My 1968 C172 with 180hp has always cost under 1000/yr annual with incidental maintenance(75hrs flying per year for last 10 years). During that time my 1958 Be 35J has never come out of annual for less than 2500, usually 3500(75hrs a year for last 10 years).Only routine engine maintenance on...

General maintenance cost: 6cyl + CS prop vs 4cyl fixed pitch

I think you will have well over twice the engine-prop expense with the 6 cylinder/csp combination compared to the 4 cyl fixed pitch, especially when you consider fuel. With 50% more moving parts and heat producing cylinders, and complexity of the CSP, the 182 definitely more expensive. The more...

Go on Basic Med - what am I missing ?

Insurance! I would not put it pass insurance companies raising the rates more for basic med than for 3rd class, all things considered.

    Is my career over?

I feel the FAA are going to want know what is causing the right homonymous hemianopia, the diplopia, and the separate concern that necessitated the visit to the neurologist. Your future will depend on their diagnoses as well as the extent of damage. You need a diagnosis to tie everything...
