Eye floaters and FOV (Floater Only Vitrecomy)

Floaters are usually a degeneration of the vitreous(jelly) but can be other things(blood, retinal tears, pigment epithelial cells, etc. They are seen when they are located in the central part of the vitreous with light and a white background. Head position can make them more or less easily seen...

    TR182 vs Turbo Normalized 177R

The TR182 has as good a reputation for durability than any turbocharged single over the past 40 yrs. A derated O540 is about as bullet proofed turbo as one can find.

    Vultures...correct last second maneuver?

Plus you can climb much faster(fpm) than you can dive, plus you are slowing down.

Do you subscribe to Windy.com Premium subscription? Do you find it beneficial for trip planning?

I use some free long range forecast sites, but it really comes down to prog charts, TAF’s, and MOS obtained thru ForeFlight. If that is not obviously a go, then I am not going to dig deeper trying to convince myself I can make the flight. Weather is what you get, no site is perfect, but I hang...

    Mooneys..M20

I would of owned a Mooney, actually thought I had bought one (the owner backed out), but what gave me pause were, 1)fuel leaks, 2)engines tended to run hot and seldom reached TBO(despite a bullet proof engine) 3)never had a local mechanic that had the expertise and experience working on them...

PIREP of KELP - El Paso

In New Mexico they are referred to as farolitos(lanterns) versus luminarias(bonfire). Almost as controversial as red or green chili.

Peripheral Edema - is it disqualifying?

I think the FAA would request the notes if the AME didn’t. What was the rational for the diagnosis, what are other possibilities and how were they ruled out, was this a tentative diagnosis for billing, working diagnosis for initial treatment, or could there be other potential diagnosis’s that...

PIREP of KELP - El Paso

Prefer Roswell for fuel price, ease getting in/out, but have had no strong feelings other than I’m rarely in need of Million Air or Atlantic high end services.

Do you call when you're the unknown traffic

As stated previously, I monitor, and respond if I feel that I’m causing a problem. Occasionally they will contact me even when I’m not causing a problem, stating they wish I would check in despite being well out of the class c airspace. He was so nice about it, explaining how I could help him...

Looking for a 2 seater, I know this is a lot to ask for...

I like the recc of T 18, especially with a O290 or O320 that could burn auto fuel. They are alt more reasonable to purchase than RV’s.

What would you have done? Inclement weather coming.

if you were monitoring the weather at destination in real time(ATIS, AWOS) and you had an out, I think you did just fine. If the winds had start changing, then plan B.

    Need help planning a trip

Early morning flights not longer than 4 hours duration. Get centrally located and rent a car for a few days, then fly to next stop. From Kanab, you can visit Lake Powell, Zion, Grand Canyon(North Rim) Bryce Canyon, each an easy day trip by car. Mostly VFR, IFR only to get out or into mild IFR...

    Color Vision Problem.

Passing a color vision test can be more difficult as one ages. A young man with 20/15 vision who barely passes the color vision test, as he ages, the yellowing of the lens(cataract), as well as macular degeneration, can make it more difficult to pass the test. I agree, get the SODA.

    Advice for loooooong cross-country

Plenty of good advice, I’ll just sum up points that I think are important, useful. Fly early, follow main roads(especially out west where airports are more likely), small airports (where there are courtesy cars, cheaper gas, helpful local pilots), keep route options open(weather). You’re flying...

    Diagnostic impression vs. diagnosis

If the doctor is considering a diagnosis due to your symptoms, the FAA considers you have that diagnosis until the doctor shows them why he has ruled out that diagnosis. He has to tell the FAA why he no longer considers that diagnosis.

Upcoming trip, Western US - Where should I go!

Last year, flew into lake Powell, got rent car and drove to Kanab for three nights. First day to Zion National Park(much less busy driving in from East), next day to Bryce Canyon(most enjoyable of all), last day drove to North Rim. Less tourists which I appreciated.

    Ugh. Had to book airlines...again.

You did the right thing, especially with family. Must have flexibility for sure with family. I love to fly GA, but when I start to get those butterflies, wondering if it’s time for plan b, the decision has already been made. Airlines, car, change day of departure/return. The last thing I want to...

Cholesterol, do I need to pick up smokin' and drinkin,??

Science has already figured out how to “help” those two things, not a cure but definitely help. Ideal weight(not average weight), diet(Mediterranean or equivalent), BP<130/70, cholesterol<200, 150 minutes exercise/wk. Each of these are shown to decrease Dementia/Heart Disease 20-30%, better than...

Cholesterol, do I need to pick up smokin' and drinkin,??

Low cholesterol is usually not a problem. You do not need to try and raise it, but your physician should be checking to see if you might have a systemic health problem that is causing it to be low. Was your cholesterol once normal?
