    Richard Collins gone west . . .

Damn... he and Baxter were legends to a kid growing up wanting to fly.

Where would you have diverted to?

Whew glad that’s settled. I’m sure someone thought the post about the FO having a gf in PHL was serious.

Where would you have diverted to?

Reading through this thread several people, some of which do fly these types of aircraft, have given reasons as to why PHL is a better choice than MDT but you don’t seem to believe them. Your two points are “it’s closer in miles” and “what if they crash”. The first is nearly irrelevant as has...

Where would you have diverted to?

Put me down for another PHL vote. MDT is closer distance wise, but time wise it's a wash. Hell, being in the mid 30s is probably setting up to be high if descending into the PHL area. The rapid D and ensuing descent probably helped that issue. Immediate issue of fire/decompression passed...

    Boeing 787-8 Specs

In the 777 the crew was flying in FLCH mode which provides no stall protections via the auto throttle system. Once it went into HOLD mode it wasn’t going to move unless the pilots did something. Had they been in an A330 they would have had those stall protections as that is how the plane is...

    Boeing 787-8 Specs

Oddly enough, if the Asiana 777 in SFO a few years ago had been an A330, it would have also been a non-event. Both design philosophies have their merits and downsides. You just have to understand what they are.

    Boeing 787-8 Specs

The 787 has a hell of a wing on it. Coming out of NRT we're heading back to the states in a 777-300 slogging it out at 320. Our cohorts in the 787 climb right on up to 390 and above most of the norpac turbulence. And yeah that wing.. it flexes, a lot.

Are Large or small jets easier to fly?

    777 is a pussycat.

    A380 wagging its tail

Watching the video, that plane didn't do anything the pilot didn't ask it to. Holy rudder deflection at touchdown... Winds were supposedly 33kts. Even if a direct crosswind (which it probably wasn't) shouldn't be a big deal.

    Jet Blue

    sure what may I ask?

    Jet Blue

No ego here. I fly a plane that's easier to make a soft landing than the bus, but I did fly the 320 series for a while and know it has forgiving landing gear, especially compared to its competitor the 737.

    Jet Blue

Assuming you were on a bus rather than a 190, the Airbus has very soft landing gear. I'm sure he appreciated your unsolicited commentary .... [emoji849]

    Airline Pilot Quality of Life

You got that right. Our contract here is just short of 700 pages with all the LOAs/MOUs added in and I'm sure it looks nothing like yours.

    Airline Pilot Quality of Life

At the major I work for you can be making $100k the first year and second year puts him back at $130k easily. These are the days. OP go check out the pay rates for various airlines and airlinepilotcentral.com. It's a VERY rough estimate but multiplying the hourly rates by 1000 gives you an...

    Sully

Pretty much. That being said, I thought the rest of the movie was about as accurate of an aviation movie as I've ever seen. The attention to detail was incredible. Down to cutting the raft loose from the a/c with the raft-equipped knife. My wife is an FA so she went through and nit-picked the...

    CRW UPS Crash

Out of curiosity what do you fly and in what type of operation?

Is there a "correct" call sign for the PA-28R?

In the grand scheme of things there really isn't much of a difference when comparing Piper models with each other (outside of a cub or the like). Same with the Cessna family.

Do commercial airliners slow down for turbulence?

Ah that makes sense. You're doing better than I was when I flew into LGA. .66M/270 was Mmo/Vmo LOL

    .75? What are you in?
