A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

Mostly guys, but there’s at least one all women team. Some are retired and it’s what they do. Some are independently wealthy and self sponsored. Some are caterers that do this on the side. Some guys own or manage bbq stores and use that leverage. Some have been able to win enough contests...

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

I looked up some of the teams from the contest yesterday. One drove in from CO and another from PA. Both are top 10 in national points.

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

Judged that contest today. It was a first-time for it and the organizers did a great job of turning it into a community event. They even got the local PD and FD to set up food tents next to each other. They had live music and a beer tent, too. They really worked hard and I hope they can draw...

If you left your 182 in a Marne, Michigan cornfield, the FAA would like to speak to you

If there’s any new information, I’m all ears.

    Life-Changing Bands (or Songs)

Villa Nauga, dark, strung with party lights, serving up cold mai tais, and cranking those tunes seems like a great place to hang.

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

I’m off to judge another contest this weekend. It’s a first time contest and I don’t recognize any of the teams. I know they have a lot of “backyard” teams. I’m hoping it’s all good. The backyard version only cooks chicken and ribs. That gives new teams a chance to try a competition without...

That picture is even more cool than the one of just him. Those look like two people I’d like to hang out with. Have some beers, shoot some guns, talk about flying, …

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

The history of “west” in the US is pretty fascinating. Daniel Boone pushed beyond the boundaries of the original Colonies. The Corps of Discovery pushed from St Louis to the west coast. Eventually railroads opened it all up.

If you left your 182 in a Marne, Michigan cornfield, the FAA would like to speak to you

Reminded me of this story about 7 years ago: Pilot flies into town for a meeting, attempts to land on a road, crashes, walks into town so he doesn't miss the meeting. Someone driving by sees a crashed airplane and calls it in. Cops show up and can't find the pilot. Eventually he comes back...

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

I'll stick with the FAA chart supplement. For an FAA thing it actually makes some sense.

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

As far as I've always been concerned, it's always been "midwest". I didn't realize there's an official definition. But to your other point, Dodge City is in western KS, so it's probably OK to consider it "west".

    Oh, those silly geographers.....

A lifetime ago this Kansas boy was visiting relatives in Indiana and Ohio and got a confused look on his face when they mentioned living in the mid-west. To me, anything east of the Mississippi is "east".

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

One of my favorite scenes in the movie “Winter’s Bone”: the big sister is showing her younger brother and sister how to hunt and clean squirrels so they could eat. They shoot one and she skins and guts it. Her little brother looks at what she’s pulling out and asks, “Do we eat those parts?”...

I’m still kicking myself for not discovering tri-tip sooner. It just isn’t a thing out here.
